Lake Cle Elum and surrounding areas

Post by steveptr » Tue May 26, 2015 7:01 pm

So I just recently move near the lake. I dont have a fishing boat currently so I'm. What gear do I need. I have basics. I just bought a new spinning rod and reel and also picked a casting reel (thought I had a casting rod laying around). I grew up trout fishing mostly did a little bass fishing and some salt water (rock and lin cod) when I was really young. Anyways I know about cooper lake and I plan to fish that too. but what do I need for a nice after work cast and catch.

I fished Cooper this weekend. There is some shore access if you walk along the trail that goes from the launch, going up the lake. That is to say, towards the opposite direction from the outlet, (Cooper river) I was trolling a wooly bugger from a float tube. Had only 4 hits, wouldn't say it was that strong a day of fishing. I saw a couple others caught.
Just work your way up lake along the shore.

Lake Cle Elum is not what I would call a lake to fish from shore. The lake is filled and lowered regularly via the dam, and such as right now it is very high, and if you were fishing from shore you are casting out into areas that are usually not covered with water, bushes, etc.
You can fish the Cle Elum river in a few different places, but I suspect it is quite full and running fast at this time. I prefer it in the fall. The Yakima has access behind the baseball field in S. Cle Elum, as well as some points at the confluence of the Teanaway river/Yakima river. (Where the Teanaway goes under Hwy 10, just East of Cle Elum.)
The Teanaway also has a WDFW access site, that is at "Red Bridge".. Google map, "Red bridge road"
