Northwest Fishing Reports

Do carp travel in schools? I went to wawawai again on the snake river it's about 3 miles north of lower granite dam. And there was a school of fish that were rather large but they didn't have a lot of scales on them like carp have and their mouths reminded me of a sucker fish but it was hard to tell. There where about 4-5 of them in each group but several groups. They kept circling each other while biting the bugs and going around the inlet and river. They wouldn't bite any of my lures but were feeding like crazy. I tried nightcrawlers too but they wouldn't bite those either. Any thoughts on what they could be?

Those sound exactly like carp. Run in small schools, or pods, swim right bellow the surface, are huge and wont eat your bait, yep those sound like carp to me. What color were they? If they were brown then they were for sure carp.

I'm colorblind so I'm not sure. Most carp that I have seen have a lot of shiny scales but maybe the overcast was just making them hard to see. All the carp I've seen have always been really spread out is why I asked. Well time to start bringing my corn with me.

Some guys snag them for fun. Not what I'm suggesting you going and doing, but I do know guys will get so frustrated of coaxing them into biting something but they never bite and end up trying to run a big hook through them to get them hooked up..

They sound like carp but could be suckers as well. If you fish for carp remember they are extremely spooky and gear shy. I have had good luck on light line, a clear bobber with either crickets or white corn...

One way to catch these Things is to use a "veggie-burger" ..lol carp are veggie eaters .. whats wierd is that an angler can entice them to bite using "dough balls" or "corn" !! my uncle use to love to fish for these fish and i would sit there as a young child filled with joy when he got one watch him fight these monsters .. I would have never thought that i would go up and learn to dislike these fish .. sorry , just keeping it real ..BBD

sounds like carp but could be suckers to! suckers will school also. you basically fish for them on the bottom. i use the same stuff that is used for carp, dough bait, corn, and a worm will work, my method has always been site fishing them. you see them along the shorelines in and around the rocks sucking up stuff, place the bait in front of them and they will usually suck it up.the best way that i liked to eat them was pickled. they were really close to tasting like pickled herring. i'll have to look for a good recipe on this.<')//<
