okuma sst FYI

Post by goodtimesfishing » Tue Oct 29, 2013 3:18 pm

As some already know Okuma has a real good warranty that they stand behind. I have broke a SST before and had them replace the tip section for the shipping cost. Well I broke another one this season and finally got around to giving them a call. I don't have my receipt and that was not going to be a problem as the rep said as long as my bank statement shows spending the cost of the rod or more at cabelas within the warranty period it would be covered. He then said that if I can't come up with the statement with that information, he could go another route, he could do it as a part purchase rather then a warranty and the cost would only be the same $14.95 for shipping plus $10.00 for the part. Then I find out if I just do the purchase of the tip half of rod I would have it in about a week and if I go the warranty route it would be 2 weeks so turns out to be a no brainer to me.....pay the extra $10 and get the rod back in action in a week.

The point of this post is for anyone out there with a broken Okuma SST, they stand behind there rods and are serious about customer service. Even if it breaks after the warranty, it is only $10 more to replace the tip section(which is the part that ends up broken most of the time). I had not mentioned the model sst prior to the rep quoting $10 so must be that price for any tip half of sst rod.

If you have a broken okuma sst.......get it fixed and get that rod back in action! Anyone interested in getting there broken okuma sst back in action call (909)923-2828 or google okuma warranty and you can get the # there too.

Anyone with experience with the new okuma t-40x(not sure on that model # but something like that)I am curious how you rate them to the sst?? Lets here what you have to say??

Okuma SST-S-862M is an 8'6 rod with a line rating of 8-17 lbs is that the heaviest that they make the sst in spinning? That's what I'm seeing and wondering if I'm missing something. Thank you!

Do report, I am very curious. Like the looks of them and would like to hear what you have to say about them compared to the sst.

By the way, what did you get(model)?

I got the number by googling "okuma warranty" The number is (909)923-2828 I talked to a guy named Eddy, his ext. is 180. If you have your receipt and the rod is less then 1 year it will cost $14.95 for shipping. If you don't have proof of purchase then you can just purchase the tip section and it will cost $25(that includes shipping)and saves about a week. The reason it saves a week is if you use the warranty then you have to send the $14.95 plus proof of purchase and a small piece of the broken section. So you have to wait for them to get that and process it. I found that I would rather pay an extra $10 and not use the warranty that way it is in the mail and on it's way to me. The rep said it would be in the mail tomorrow or the next day at the latest! [thumbsup]

Wish I would have made the call a week or so ago when it broke.
