Baby Muskys at Cabelas w/ Pics and video link

Post by Rich McVey » Wed May 06, 2009 5:40 am

Mark Wells:

Cascade Musky Association in cooporation with the WDFW, donated tiger muskies to Cabelas today. Sounds pretty simple but it's actually been an ongoing project since last summer.

After the Lk Tapps stocking today, myself and Todd Reis followed Steve Caromile(WDFW)to Cabelas to 'hand off' 4 lil tigers to Ethan Evans(Aquarium manager). They will spend some time in a quarantine tank before being added to the spiny ray aquarium along with the bass, walleyes etc.

Probably in a couple weeks you'll be able to see the beauties swimming around and looking tough.

Mark Wells
Thanks Mark, and to everyone involved. Im looking forward to seeing them in action.

Its interesting that they seem to hold higher in the water column than the other fish.

The still pics are just moments away from feeding time. I have video of the feeding that Im trying to clip out the boring and out of focus parts. The lil muskys are fast! I couldnt believe how fast they would dart past other fish and grab the feeder fish. I'll get that posted soon.

No sure what the species is, they are about 3 inches long, white'ish. You might be able to tell in the video.

Good call YellowBear,I never thought of it 'til now but every time I've drifted in
there, the muskies are always near the top, while the bass and gills are all over the place.

Great pics Rich, I was in here on my way down to Silver,I swear the walleyes are on steroids...
they seem to get bigger and bigger but at almost an alarming rate.
They now have the baby sturgeon in with the trout...I heard a guy telling his wife"Hey,look at the little
catfish." Good times!!!:clown:

At one spot, almost at the mid point of the vid, you get a shot of all 5 of them.

Sorry the pic gets crappy but I was taking the vid on a still camera and this was the first time I used it.

Ouch #-o It wasnt a phone.

10 Megapixel, 10x optical zoom. Dont even remember the name brand, Olympus maybe. Got it at Sams Club for $250. Looks like an SLR but does not have interchangeable lenses.

The tails on these little guys don't look very healthy. Then again, most of the fish in those tanks don't look very good. I was down there Saturday (14 November) and their tails were looking even worse than in the pictures in this thread.

Is there a plan to remove them from the tank at some point? It's an awfully small tank for a fish that can grow so big... They'll probably be eating their neighbors too.

That's what I was thinking while looking. Maybe they know its almost feeding time? Can't look to much into it since its just a fish tank. But I have a lm in a 55 tank and I learned a little bit about how they eat. I also found out some bass are really hard sleepers lol

RaMcVey, thanks for posting your film.
I also noticed the Muskie's tails but there tails always seem to be shredded, and was going to ask WHY?
I noticed A Largemouth that seems to have some sort of fungus.
The little Bluegill that had a mouth full was running for his life, lol.
You didn,t give the Walleye much exposer, lol but it looked like a good one.

I also saw something that I am going to try on the Pike.
Thanks again for posting it.
I will let you know if it works.

I was just down there on the 1st of December and there was a large cat with a really bad fungus problem. None of the fish looked really healthy. I am an experience fish keeper 16 tanks going as we speak and if my tanks ever looked this bad I would give up and quit.

Sad to see....
