There is hope!!!

Post by leahcim_dahc » Tue Nov 20, 2007 12:48 pm

From previous experience deploying to the sandbox...I have thought on a couple occasions, "Wonder if there's anywhere to fish during my downtime if I deploy?". Should I have the wifey mail over a rod or two...?

I've looked at what fishing would be like on the Tigris...but found it to be one of the most heavily polluted systems in the world. However, it might be neat to fish it just to say I have.

The article listed at the link below is a neat read...now, I just wait and see what happens. Then start making plans for fishing...

It dosnt sound like the best fishing..... but still fishing none the less. The one species I have never actually heard of, so it might be the only chance you might have at catching one. There isnt any fresh water eels is WA state either so thats another fish worth pursuing.

I personally have fished many times where I know I wasnt going to catch any fish, just being out on the water relaxing is some time all it takes to unwind. Especially after a hard days work. To hook up with a fish would almost be a bonus. Definitely worth bringing a pole just in case in my opinion.

When is your deployment?

Googling that one..."Aspius Vorax"...looks like some sort of carp. Google images turned up some decent sized ones.

I'll probably have the wife send a rod or two...probably just buy a couple cheap combos, just in case I loose them or they get broke. Who knows...a year is a long time to find some fishing holes when we're not working. It might be kind of fun...

Nothing is set in stone, yet. Rumor from our squadron CSM puts it around August sometime, train up in preparation/anticipation has started, so we'll see...may not even go.
