Post by jrdaphnehowell » Mon Aug 27, 2007 4:53 pm

This will be the first time me and my husband go out salmon fishing. He wants to fish for pinks for now, but we don't know where to go. We live in Spanaway, but are willing to go on an hour drive or so to fish. It needs to be freshwater, that's the only liscense we have for now, and no boat ](*,). Any ideads someone would be willing to share?

Your 2 closest places would be the Puyallup river and the carbon river, but I dont even know if these rivers are open right now and have never actually fished them. I would have to recommend the Spokane street fishing pier. Its really salt water, but you can use either fresh or salt water licence. Its actually the Duwamish river (mouth of the green river) and is considered marine area 10. All you need is your fresh water licence and a punch card. You should have got your punch card for free w/ your fresh water licence but if you didnt get it you have to pay 10$ for it. The pier goes all the way over the the river and 1.3 million pinks are spawning in the green. This is my first year of fishing for pinks, and I got off to a really rough start LOL. But in the last 2 weeks I have caught 4 from the pier. I have found the best lure is pink baby squids, also pink buzz bombs and and pretty much any thing pink. You dont need salmon poles, just trout poles and 8 or 10 lb test. Make sure to bring a cooler, these salmon are the least best tasting of the salmon. They dont taste gross by any means but compared to Sockeye or Chinook. So cutting their gills to letting them bleed out and putting them right on ice goes a long way. Even if you dont catch any fish its one hell of an experience. Just watching the schools swim right under neath you is worth it enough. Like I said Im new as well, but feel free to PM me with any more questions.

River fishing. Small pink jigs and bounce them in the bottom 1/3 of the water column and you should stay busy..

I have fished the Carbon by it's mouth near the Puyallup River between Orting and Sumner. The last time the Pinks came through one wading in the river could feel them bump against your legs. It was awesome the amount of fish. Most all the people fishing used corkies or corkies and yarn. Of varying colors. At that time the fish didn't seem to know that they only like pink. Almost no body used large corkies. The range from tiny to medium. I am hoping for more information, too.

The Nisqually is too big for me and I don't know where to fish on it. It is also further away and I have limited funds.

I tried to start a forum for River Fishing Salmon for info if you want to keep an eye on it.
Look for Wannafish A Lure on FaceBook

He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.

There's some good places for fishing on the Nisqually but im not sure what the name of the roads are in that area. I know that its close by the military base because one of the spots you have to have a military id to fish in there but theres another spot thats open for everyone. Id have to call the dad to find out what the name of the road the places are on

My husband caught his first Salmon in the Puyallup River! We'd been fishing for several hours with no luck. I gave up, cleaned up our stuff and waited patiently for JR. Then the Salmon hit his lure! Got it on shore and we saw the adipose fine so the first thought that came to our mind was that it needed to go back. Took a picture, tossed it back. A bit later someone passed by us and told us we could of kept it, oh well #-o . We'll try again in a couple days. Thanks for your help. He caught it using corky and yarn. I'm pretty sure that I'm bad luck though. I haven't caught any fish all year, not that I'm not trying. He can catch though, so can our son. That's kind of frustrating.
