Any one still fishing for trout?

Post by GeryG » Sat Jul 28, 2007 8:51 pm

I went 2 days ago and caught my limit of trout. The fish are getting bigger. 13 to 15 inches. They are fighting alot better to. Once they hit that warm water, they go crazy.

I'm still fishing for trout. I usually hit some of the remote creeks in N. Idaho and a few WA lakes are still ok to fish deep. Also deep lakes are churnin out Kokanee stilll.

FISH ON!!!!:-"

I was fishing for bass from the bank at Fenwick on Saturday and a guy there caught a NICE 18" RB. Had to be a hold-over from last year - not a Trip and this guy was FAT (the trout, not the guy who caught it). He was floating a medium nightcrawler off the bottom, injected air into the tail and was about 40" off bottom.

So yeah, they're still out there and still hitting.

Can't say the same for the bass at Fenwick heh....

For you guys in Kent, the lake I fish is in Arlington, probably farther than you would want to drive.
I recommend Langlois lake in Carnation, for you in Kent. Anybody interested in a derby on this lake for trout?
$10 dollars to get in and biggest fish takes all, and all fish under 14" released, unless you eat them.
Give us a chance to meet some of the trout fishermen on this site, that live in this area. I fish for trout once a
week or more, but I havent been to Langlois this year yet. If you go, and havent been there. They have logs
out in the water by the boat launch that make it difficult to get out on low water times, like in summer. So bring
your oars to push your boat over the logs. I have a 10' V hull aluminum boat, and have to do this, some boats
float in shallower water, and have littte difficulty doing this. I struggle with it late at night, when you cant see the
logs in the water. If you have never been there, and you have a boat like mine, go in the morning the first time.
Keep this post going if anyone is interested in a derby.

The only shore access is at the boat launch, the trout are deep now, so you wont catch any
trout there now, just bass. At one time you could walk to a couple spots from the boat launch,
but people left there trash, so its not permitted any more, private property all around the lake.
Its a great lake, no big boats, water skiers, or jet skiers. Just get some thing that floats and
get out there. Its a small and protected lake from wind. Its about 90 feet deep in the middle, and
has kokanee, trout and bass. It has clear water, you can see down about 15 feet.

If you are looking for shore access near Kent, I would say Deep lake. Try to find a lake with
deep clear water for trout this time of the year, they dont usually get the white sores like they do in
stained waters.

I live right down the street from angle lake and fish the lake on a regular basis for the first part of the year, but then get bored with it about June. But my neighbor still goes there a lot and limits most of the time. The fish arnt huge, but every few days he does manage to hook into a tripliod. Oh and Im down for the fishing derby, and have always wanted to fish that lake.

I'm still getting out once or twice a week. Fish Lake near Cheney is still putting out tigers but no brookies for me. I'm hearing reports that Amber is still putting out fish for those willing to fish the early morning and evening hours. I'm going to try Medical one evening this week. Just a few days ago a partner and I hit the upper North Fork of the CDA River and knocked them silly while nymphing and throwing dries. I was expecting St. Joe sized fish and was pleasantly surprised by several 12-15" cutties and one big, beautiful male at 17". The water was oh so cold and the wading was pleasant as compared to the Spokane River...and the scenery rocked, too!

I've been finding Trout in Fish Lake (Spokane Co), Fan Lake and Horseshoe (Pend Oreille Co.), Black Lake (Stevens Co) over the last 3 weeks.

I had a couple of great days on Fish Lake recently. I fished Black Lake today (report coming) and had a very good day with some very large Tiger Trout caught.

The trick for me this time of year is to get on the water at or near dawn. I have found that if I fish a large pattern at or near the bottom and work from the shore into the deeper portions of the lake I have good luck. A fish finder doesn't hurt either!!

I have invested in a thermometer that allows me to read the water temp at up to 25' from the surface. This helps in finding the right level to fish.

If you get up early and fish the right depth you should find the fish even in the hot weather.

i must be spoiled cause ive never worried about catching trout/kokes late into the summer. every week i go to one lake that has me limit out on kokanees within the first few hours. i get a bow in there every other or every third hookup, but let them go. and the fish are only at 30' where we catch them. im more interested in bass though myself

the trout are still biting like crazy. you just have to get deep. try pine lake in a boat or use alot of weight and get out as far as you can. they are getting big nothnig under 15 inches from what i have seen. smoke the trout and they are still tasty.

Mikey,
I use home made wedding rings, worms, power bait, power eggs, no flashers or dodgers. Cant stand the drag of them. I just got a new shippment of supplies I ordered for making spinner blades. I have enough beads to open a bead store. Plus I tye my own flys, which I use instead of the hook, that comes with the wedding rings you buy in the store. I only troll for trout, cant stand still long enough to sit there and wait for a trout to bite.
I get way more action trolling. Try buying the wedding ring they sell in the store with the orange & brass beads, then buy a black fly, #6 or #4 That way you can put a worm and power bait on. Use the power nuggets, they stay on the best. I went out tuesday and caught another limit, and plan on going out tomorrow to try some new stuff.
I have noticed its not worth getting up to early in the moring to fish, the fish on top in the morning are sluggish
and dont bite much, but if you get out there when they go deep around 8:30 - 9:00 most of them are at the thermocline and bitting.:cheese:
