this has come up a lot around here already,, but you might look closely at the amount of closed beaches within Puget Sound due to pollution. The numbers are huge. I usually operate from a frame of mind that ( ya gotta die from something, so what the hay) But after as many diseased bottom fish i've caught in the Sound, I would be real leary of clams living in the bottom.

But on that note.... whoo hoo!! about 1 more week until crab season:chef: :chef: :chef:

Good point Quadfather. Saltwater, Dash Point and Redondo are all closed due to health restrictions.

Go where the tides Flush:-$ the south is limited not too shellfish due to toxins:batman: and ripping ocean tides:chef:

I thought that all those areas are closed? Maybe not Pt Def.

Just take a look at the link under the Home tab (walakes.com) link to the regs. go to the shellfish rules page. There is a map of the whole Sound... there is a key which shows beaches that are questionable.. and beaches that are just plain closed. When you see this you will see what i mean by it being one of the most dismal things. It is kind of a thorn in my side... Walk around on most of the central Sound beaches and look under the rocks, then ask yourself where is the marine life? You just have to make the trip to coastal beaches. Razor clams are through for the summer, next dig is in the fall. Look at Copalis, Pacific beach, Long Beach.
Some people do take oysters from Hood Canal, but I could not tell you where a clean public beach is.

Just take a look at the link under the Home tab (walakes.com) link to the regs. go to the shellfish rules page. There is a map of the whole Sound... there is a key which shows beaches that are questionable.. and beaches that are just plain closed. When you see this you will see what i mean by it being one of the most dismal things. It is kind of a thorn in my side... That is why I posted this because the regulations are on paper and I can't tell what beaches are public. I was asking for knowledge. I have never been after oysters so I don't know where they are.

I usually go to hood canal. Potlatch state park is one i frequent. I know it's not close but it's at least safe for eating.

100's more but the common link your near cities, industry and low tide flushes your risking your health and one dose of bad clams , oysters and more due to Red tides you WILL BEG FOR THE FLU = N BY N=WEST:thumright

Hey when you do fill up that tank check out Kitsap Memorial state park and theres a couple of others right in that vicintity. This park is before the hood canal bridge.

Toni Jenn and I will be personal tour guides:-$ of the area( Chuckanut and all the farmlands out to her the cliffs, water and area off the hook if you can make it just 35 miles N of Seattle will do all the driving show you all the sights , bring killer salmon lunches :bounce: :chef: and more its a wonderful area and should be seen by all and I have a good pal on a big Oyster bed!:thumright :viking::rambo:
We could Vikingize Jenn a I-T manager hero cupcake with the school districts and she still loves the day trips up there and they have a Great State park remote beaches and Islands as well:thumleft: =d>
