Hummingbird 595C problems

Does anybody else out there use a Hummingbird 595C f.f.? or similar unit?
Mine is only 2 years old, suddenly on my last outing I had no display pic. at all. When I power on, I would get the usual quick electral flash on the screen... but instantly there would be no image at all. As if it didn't have power. I've checked the connections to the battery, etc. Like I said, it flashes once on power up, so it is not as though it doesn't get power.
Of course I will contact the customer service peeps. Just thought I'd check with you guys.#-o

Hey Chris I actually had this same exact problem on my last outing. I also have a Humminbird but just a little cheapy model (Piranha Max 215). The positive terminal (on the battery) and the positive FF wire were both rusted. So I figured that was the problem but it was actually the connection at the FF for the terminal wires that was loose. We just fiddled with the connection piece on the back of the monitor and it would work eventually. But Like I said mine is a cheap model and has gone through hell over the last 2.5 years. I would strip off a few inches of each terminal wire and give each terminal a good sanding/wire brush treatment. Then go to NAPA and get a can of QD Electronic Cleaner and spray the outlet plug and the reviving end for the plug on the back of the monitor. It sounds like you have some type of connection problem and this should clean it up. But I would do all of this after you talk to Humminbird, they might be able to fix. Companies like to void warranties and liability after the product has been messed with. Let me know how it goes for you

Quad, slimyslab had a similar problem with his sonar unit. Eventually we traced it to, as gpc had pointed out, a corroded connection. His was in the fuse case and it wasn't really bad looking and provided a good voltage reading, but it was just enough to limit the current to the point that the finder couldn't operate. My suggestion would be to temporarily hook it directly to a battery source using fresh wire, if it works you know it is a wiring/connection issue.

Done that.... no worky. G-man, you can see my other post with more detail. I think I will have to go down to OE and see if they will let me carry another f.f. head out to the boat and plug it in the stand. We'll see...

I have had the same issue with my 565. Mine like to power off. Its the power connectore in the base. Its not tight up against the pins when connected. I remove my unit each time we leave the lake so the connectors see alot of use and have loosened up.

Thank you Rich, I did give that a close look, but I will try and assemble it again.

I dont get to Seattle much but if your in the South End, You can try your head unit on my base and see if you notice any differences.

When mine ultimatley fails, Im going to try replacing the connectors them selves with something more suited to heavy use.
