Navionics or GPS for Smartphone

There is a program called Navionics for smartphone. Was wondering if anyone experimented with it and how successful it is. I'm looking to get an android phone this year. Also if I'm fishing a large body of water can I pinpoint exact GPS location to save for future fishing, or while ice fishing to save the coordinates? Can it be used similarly to a GPS system on a boat?
