Northwest Fishing Reports

Some of my Blue Fox spinners have lost most all the paint on the blade. Can anyone recommend a paint which you could touch up these things with? Of course I am thinking there must be some kind of paint made for fishing tackle that doesn't emit any odor. I didn't really look in the gear making section at the store.

Joes. They have a powder coating paint that you don't want (Need to heat up your lure, and then dip into the powdered paint, and repeat process multiple times. The stuff you want is liquid paint. I don't know what the brand is called... They should have the colors you want....

i heard that the powder paint was the paint to use from many people. but that was for jigs, i dont know about spinners

Yea powder paint usually works better but you what you have to do is dip the jig into the powder after you stick the jigs in the oven for a few minutes to heat up...Would be probably impossible to dip spinners in powder to just get the body painted....Everything would get coated, and you don't want anything other then the body of a spinner to get the coat..

well yeah but i was thinking about the blade of a spinner. i think that powder paint would be the stuff to use for the blade

Even then you would have to heat the entire spinner in the oven, and then try and delicately dip the spinner's blade into the powder...Would be tough to do with a hot spinner.

It works with jigs cause you can take them out of the oven, use pliers to grab the hook and dip the head into the powder.....Would be a lot tougher with spinners

Pro-tec makes transparent powder paints that work great on spinner blades. It adds color but you still get the metallic flash. Look for packages that have a color sticker in the top left corner. If they don't have the sticker, they are opaque (not transparent).

From the pro-tec page at staminainc:
"Transparent (Candy) colors should be applied over metallic finishes such as those on spinner blades and spoons."

One problem w/ powder systems is that are heavy and chip easily. This could pose some problems for a blade.

Couldn't you just use a heat gun and shield vice an oven? You really don't want to be doing any sort of powder coating in the same oven you cook with...
