Anybody familiar with who makes Cabelas products?

I bought a Cabelas Tourney Trail 7' rod a couple months ago and its serving me well and out of curiosity I started looking up to see who manufactures these rods.

I guess they are just rumors but I've so far heard that the Cabelas reels are made by Daiwa and that they purchase their rod blanks from G.Loomis and St.Croix.
Considering the big price difference from roughly $50 to a couple hundred, I have my doubts about the rod blanks, but I do recall the guy at the counter stating that their reels are made by Daiwa.

If anyone knows, please do drop some knowledge!

Also...how about Bass Pro Shops rods and anyone have experience with them, compared to the Cabelas products?

I have a couple BassPro bass rods, good performance and value, no complaints yet.

Yup, I have a few BassPro Shops rods. The work great. Have had them for awhile because I don't throw them into the lake.

yeah I've heard great things about the BPS rods. Very popular it seems. Mike, which BPS rod do you have? some of them can get a bit pricey!

Yep, the Prodigy in specific was the one he said was made by Daiwa.

One of the guys at Cabelas told me thier Whuppin Sticks are made by Shakespear - same rods as the Ugly Sticks. Don't know about any of the others.

I believe Cabelas and Bass Pro Shops contract with various companies for various reels and rods. I am quite sure the Cabelas Mag Tough is not a G Lumis or St. Croix.

The cheaper rods and reels from both companies are just that, cheep. The more expensive are perhaps made by the higher end companies, but I truly believe Cabelas and BPS simply put a specification out for bid and they take the lowest bidder - normal business.

Crankin Stick IM6 CK763MHT 7'6" and XPS IM8 PG70MHT 7'

Love them both! They are comfortable with good power and half the cost of name brand rods. I'm very happy with them.

On a side note, I visited the Cabelas in ID last month. Very disappointed. Not anywhere near the selection of the Bass Pro Shops in Vegas. That place is unreal!

Ya, the Cabelas in Post Falls Idaho is not one of the large stores. The one in Draper Utah is much larger as well.

The BPS in Vegas is a place I have got to check out some day.

The BPS in Vegas is a great place! The Casino it is attached to is really nice too, not flashy, not too expensive - probably going to stay there next time I am out. Did a Texas Hold-Em Tourney there - got whupped, but the people at the table were all very nice and friendly (and it gave me more time to go shop!).

Actually it was only like a $20 buy in with a $20 re-buy - so I spent LESS in that 2-3 hours than I would have shopping!:cheers:

I got "stranded" (by choice) at the aquarium between the BPS and casino, that was awesome! Visited my sister and bro-in-law there a few years ago and couldn't believe BPS was on her list of places we had to see until we went there.
