Fishing Sekiu this time of year?

Post by BARCHASER10 » Sat Feb 14, 2015 4:09 pm

I've been fishing Sekiu for 30 years but always in the summer never this time of year. Sekiu opens on the 16th and the weather is so nice I thought I might drag my boat over there for a few days.

Anybody have any experience with Sekiu this time of year and is it worth the trip? I don't even know if the motels are open now.

Thanks

bottomfish/seabass? I haven't been there this early, but I bet it will be very relaxing and productive.

That too but I was thinking more about the Salmonoid type as in Blackmouth or more mature Chinooks, maybe early summer fish?

Olsens is open and waitin for your visit. The gas pumps are running now too, so says the're facebook posts. I've done it many times for blackmouth along the caves and farther west, could be really good. May get some colombia bound springers too.

Thanks for the come back! I've always wondered if Columbia/Willamette springers swing by there, seems like they should.

John Martinis of John's sporting goods had a post on his Facebook page last week about fishing off of Port Angeles in Area 6 for Winter Chinook. They limited their boat by 10:30am with fish into the mid teens. Probably worth a look if you are heading to the coast. Also, PA is not all that far from Sekiu, so if it is good in PA I would wager to bet that is it also good in the Sekiu area.

Send us a report, have fun, and good luck.

Mat fishing this time of year in Sekiu is a blast really a blast in a center console with no cab the cold out there is going to be your problem but with this years weather it is worth a shot... they used to have black mouth derbies there out of Olsons in Feb. I went every time I could the guys and gals that worked at Olsons were great. One year on the 2nd day of the derby I hooked a 50+ pound Halibut trolling in about 120 foot of water darn that fish made some great runs thought I was in the money till we saw the fish..... that's fishing

I also got a large Hallie maybe 50 while trolling off of Eagle Beach around 120. It was back when the Hallie and Salmon seasons overlapped but Hallie was only open Thurs to Sat. It was Tuesday so I had to toss it back. That Hallie was really strong on salmon gear in fairly shallow water. I wish the seasons still overlapped but that wont happen anymore.
