potholes fishing derby!
thanks to all who replied to me in the "fed up" thread. now it is time to make reservations for campsites for the mardon resort fishing derby Sept. 28-29-30. alot of wl.com'ers replied with wanting to know details, and, 5 people have decided to do it so far. it is a marathon dock fishing derby over 3 days with a small entry fee, but, mucho prizes worth alot of money. everyone that fishes potholes know that some monsters come out of this manmade res, especially off the dock. so, im putting together a package for camping. included with the campsite is boat launching, dock fishing, fish clean area, showers, laundry. i primarily fish the dock all night, but spend the mornings and evenings, targeting walleye and bass out on the resevior. the fall walleye bite falls right around this date, so, some excellant fishing is to be had. they give prizes for biggest, most caught, for every type of fish in the res. the largest fish last year was a huge catfish, but there were alot of big trout, bass, and walleye as well. if anyone is interested in joining this fishing outing you can PM me here, or michaelunbewust@yahoo.com. splitting the cost of camping or whatever else everyone agrees on would make the expenses affordable for anyone. there will also be a few people from the seattle area driving over, so, the possibilty to catch a ride will also be an option. Everyone is welcome, so, let me know this week. thanks.

Oh yeah I will be there for sure, and I cant wait. Me and a few buddys have been doing it for the last 2 years, we get a spot and bring around 10 people and have a blast, in fact one of my buddys just stopped by badgering me to make sure I get a spot and dont forget to invite him.
Not to rain on your parade, but you dont get paid for catching the most fish of any species and last year there wasnt a fish submitted for trout or walleye. Trust me, I caught a 5.5 lb trout right when the tourney ended, a few hours sooner this would have entitled me to 1st and 2nd place for that species, and would have paid out $500 and some change. But never the less this is a great tourney and very fun, also a pot luck and a raffle.

dont worry, you are not raining on my parade. locals and regulars like myself put in $5.00 for the most fish, and the pot is huge. going the last few years you may have heard of it. and your right about the trout and walleye, but again its a local and regular $5.00 pot that includes the whole resivior. this pot is also huge. i can get you in both of those. i saw you catch that trout, didnt they have a picture with story on the website after that. maybe we could meet up, i could show you my hotspot!!! good luck in the tourney.

I'll be there as well. If you see me, come up and say "hi". But the big Largemouth of the tournament will be mine just like last year. (see avatar) o:) . Seriously though, good luck to everyone, and I hope to meet a few of you there.
RE:potholes fishing derby!
i'll be there, i've fished it the last 3 years. i've won biggest crappie & walleye
RE:potholes fishing derby!
michaelunbewust, I like that idea of the $5.00 pot and I would love to be a part of that as well. Yeah I didnt want to get my picture taken of the trout just for that reason but while at the fillet station, we were spotted and ended up in on the web site looking like an idiot LOL. Talk about a day late and a dollar short LOL. Also to make matters worse I caught an 8" walleye during the tourney which I just threw back and right after catching the trout I caught a crappie that would have got me 2nd place so I missed out on a nice piece of change, oh well still had a great time and there is always this year. Sounds good lets meet up, do a little fishing and swap hot spots. What species do you usually target? Good luck.
Kevin K, I thought that was you, but I didnt want to say anything and have it not be you and seem like a real idiot LOL. Good luck to you.
Crappie king, Ill be watching you this year, dont think you will beat me once again LOL. Hopefully the Dawgs will be playing again, and instead of asking the score I will introduce myself this time LOL. But how about you target trout or bass and leave the crappie to me. LOL Good luck

RE:potholes fishing derby!
wow. alot of wl.com'ers. not really that suprising. fisherpeople go fishing where there is the chance to catch fish, thus, potholes. my campsite is e-2, right by the dock, we have another campsite reserved for anyone last minute. in response to one of the post's, i target bass/walleye in the early am, and just before dark. the dock is "hot after dark until about 3 am. yes, let's meet up and get as many involved with the sidepots. i will post a campsite to meet on saturday. good luck to all, except ck14 or 15 or 16.HA!
p.s.
yamamoto has a kit for $20.49 + shipping, that has all the "hot" grubs/senkos needed at potholes. its a heck-of-a-deal!!!!!!!!!

Just courious, how full (of people) do the docks get during the dock tournie there. I hit potholes a couple times a year but usually in the spring. The docks then are pretty slow durring high water.

there is alot of people, but alot of space, plus, they do it for 72 hours. i stay up around 36, but then im done til sunday. the dock seems to always crowd-up then die down. the 3 am crappie bite alot of people know about, but not many up gettingrdone!!! you will be suprised at the amount of fish caught, not to mention VARIETY. when the dock is crowded, i head out onto the main body of water, and come back when people pass out from no sleep.HA!

RE:potholes fishing derby!
Getting excited about this tournament. I am a newbie to this tournament as well as Potholes. We have been over to Banks slaying Walleye, big perch and Smallmouth. The Bronzebacks we aint even fishing for but they make find our bait well enough. I havent had a reason to leave Banks since May, but I have to say I am ready to catch a ton of fish at Potholes.
Walleyes, Crappies, Perch and Smallies. Who could ask for more. Hey if a few slime rockets (Trout) get in there as well than so be it. Looking forward to fishing and meeting all of you. The weekend of the BBQ I was at Banks catchign Walleyes.
Its go time.
Good fishing.
Joe

I have never met a fish yet that respected a big purchase. You can own a $100 boat or you can own a $30,000 boat. You might be more comfortable, but don't expect any fish to care about your investment.
