Last year a couple of guys held an innocent little fishing contest in fun and the game department got wind of it and got their nose out of joint. No fines or anything like that. Now it is more or less a joke.

fishnislife had the Multi species contest. You can search it if you would like. One of the best threads on this site actually. Had the most views and posts of any. Cool thread. But he got a little heat for hosting that tourney from the WDFW...

Wow. Did they think he was encouraging over fishing or something?
Did the DFW think they deserved money ?

As Clint Eastwood said in Unforgiven: "Deserve's got nothing to do with it."

Your are "supposed" to contact the WDFW and get a permit to host a fishing contest. Whether or not this contest was the type that needed a permit is up for grabs, but the WDFW thought that he needed one...

Either way, I think we need to start another one!

There will be more! With how successful and popular that one was, we will have more. And we will go through the proper steps too.
I looked into getting a permit, they're not very expensive $24, but as I was looking at filling out the application it asked, body of water and county affected, date the contest ends, expected # of participants. As you can see this would be impossible to answer. Body of water? Every body of water in Washington, County? All in Washington, Date the contest ends? Whenever someone wins!, Expected # of participants, Who knows you tell me.
So looking at these questions and answers that I would give, I figured this really wouldn't apply to an online fishing website contest. But I guess I was wrong.
Nothing happened but a nice warning and lessoned learned. I definitely don't regret putting that amazing contest together, but this has made me very hesitant to put others up. I have a ton of ideas but we will see if they come to light in the near future. Of course, now we need to find a plaque maker since Bassackwards has retired. :pale:

JT26, you probably would have done pretty well in this contest.

If you haven't called the WDFW already, give them a call. There must be a way around the paperwork fine print somehow.

Another web site I am active on (www.roughfish.com) is based in MN and they have the sping multi-species contest each year and they sell a "contest button" for like a buck or two and the button has to be in the picture to qualify and the money pays for the cost of administration and the prize...just an idea

I might be able to work something out with SWMBO and my neighbor with a vinyl cutter to do some trophies of some sort.....

BUT...

Im not going to exclude myself from the tournaments!

Keep in mind when I enter them, I have a very different approach than everyone else. Because I have so much free daytime to fish, I make it more difficult in that I will only fish the home lake, I won't travel to more productive areas (liberty for bass, Rock for trout, etc).

Lookin forward to the next one!
