Yeah, most times it's flossing. Considering most people that fish corkies also use a ridiculously long leader or a really short leader. But sometimes Corkie's and yarn or beads work really well, so I don't rule them out when fishing for salmon. But corkie/bead and yarn has only ever worked for me on smaller rivers. Tossing eggs works far better on any larger river, and for the most part on any river.fishenfreak wrote: Totally agree. Thats why i said 99% not 100%. Some situations im sure a single bead or corkie yarn w/scent or something like that can be good. Im just sayin for the most part. I personally know chum and coho crush bright yarnballs when im fishing hatchery steelhead early season

Condition of the fish? Hows the water clarity? Do I need to floss or can I fish Eggs? If so, should I float or drift them? Anything helps! Just trying to find something to do on my day off at the U
I just gave a check today, the upper river is flowing too strong for me to wade down, I got about 100 yards down and decided to turn back, barely made it against the current with the muddy bottom. I headed to check out the mouth (normal combat area) but it was quiet, just a few other people there. They also stopped charging the 5 dollars after Oct 1st. I only saw one guy walk out with a fish. The one rolling near me did not look too dark, nicely bronzed, but it would not take my eggs.
The couple guys I talked to said last week there were still decent kings as well as coho (just release the wild ones), but they were not there today. the visibility was zero so that likely affected the bite, they cannot eat what they cannot see (and the thick muddy water likely limits their smell too.
Re: Samish River
When im not twitching jigs, or using a blue fox, I drift without flossing, i use a streamer (that i tied) scented with shrimp oil, and let it swing all the way out and hold it after its totally swung out, this is usually where i get my strike.... theres no way it could be snagged or flossed the way i do it. Im no expert at salmon fishing, but ive caught 3 coho this year, and ive snagged 0 . I flossed 0. They hit my streamers because of the scent and contrasting colors. Drifting can be a fun legit way to salmon fish. Flossing isnt fishing its poaching. And it ruins the bite for the rest of us. There are fisherman that abuse drifting and it sucks for people like me who like doing it legitamately.
