Help for Sky Pinks at the Prison Hole
I do not usually post on any forums because people think I am nuts. Have fished the prison hole 4 times since the opener
and have done well. I have noticed that a lot or people fish there and catch nothing. One of the things I have observed is that most people throw to middle of river or close to far gravel bar. Once in a blue moon this will work but most fish caught like that are snagged fish. There are certain sweet spots in this hole that have biters when the schools come through. The lower 2/3 of the hole is not very productive on a regular basis. People need to fish the upper end where there is some current and soft spots next to the bank. The longest cast you should make is maybe twenty feet. The only way to fish that close is with a bobber and a jig. The way I rig is pretty simple. My preferred jig is a 1/8 oz, white marabou tail, cerise body ( important) and pink or white head. Starting from the jig I go with 3 ft. 6 lb. flouro, swivel,
1/8 oz. split shot, wine cork with coffee stirrer insert, small bead and stopper. I set my stopper knot about 7 ft to 9 ft. deep. I do not let my cast tail out very much because jig gets pulled up in the current. Cast to 10 o'clock and pick up
around 2 to 3 o'clock. These fish are very light biters. The way I fish this is pretty simple, cast to 10 o"clock and let the jig settle, then give it quick wrist flicks every 2 to 3 seconds. After each twitch give immediate slack. Humpy hit on the (drop). Hits will come as jig settles or drifts for a short period. You are trying to fish the slot at where the steep bank
flattens out. If a school comes through and you do not get hit you need to change depth or some other adjustment. This is
also a good thechnique for Jim's rock. For you young people this is the horse ranch.

I like your pointers. Thank you . But now... The Prison Hole is on the Snohomish not the Skykomish. Other then that Great pointers.
Re: Help for Sky Pinks at the Prison Hole
Nope, the prison hole is the Sky, about 2 miles up from the confluence

Re: Help for Sky Pinks at the Prison Hole
redlodge, very nice tips! Like the home brewed cork/straw made bobber. Now, I wish I drank more wine.....for the cork. Is a hole drilled through the cork, to instal the straw? Firkin genius!
As a side note, there is a redlodge in Monatana. Was there once as a kid, some 40 years ago. Any correlation between that redlodge and your site name?

On my map it said the Snoho. Being so close to Lewis I stand corrected. I apologize for the bad info.

google maps is all f'd up right now.. do not rely on that!!
looky here https://maps.google.com/?ll=47.847842,- ... 9&t=h&z=15" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

To install in cork you drill a 3/16 hole for a coffee stir stick or 1/8 inch hole for a plastic q tip. Live in Redlodge Montana for quite a while in the 70s.

Thanks Oneshot. It was a Google map that called the whole river the Snohomish.What do a bunch of computer nerds know of the rivers?
