Trolling weights for trout

I've been using keel weights, trolling for trout for years. They come in weight sizes: 1/8,1/4,3/8,5/8,1,1.5 OZ
For those that dont know about them, they come on a beaded chain with the weight in the middle and a keel
on the bottom to keep line from twisting. Works great for you wedding ring trollers. Well about 6 years back
I took a friend fishing and he had one weight sized 5/16 oz. To this day 6 years later, I have never saw one in
that size or even a mold in that size. Ive checked most places like local and netcraft, cabalos, and various other
places while visiting people. I asked my friend if I can have that 5/16 oz weight after I helped him catch his limit,
and he gave it to me, and I still have it. Ive caught more fish with that weight than any other weight I ever used.
One day I will lose it, so does any one know where I can get that size 5/16 oz keel sinker on beaded chain????
I know I can take a dremel and grind a larger one down to get that size, because I do it to make other sizes.
I was just wondering if anyone else has seen that size??????????????????

A 3/8's and a shorter line would troll at the same depth, conversely a 1/4 oz and a longer line should achieve the same depth.

I think you are going to find that no one is still making a 5/16 oz keel weight. A 1/16th oz difference in a trolling weight is truly negligible and any depth difference can be easily compensated for by varying the amount of line let out. If I were to hazard to guess as to why it out fishes your other weights these would be my top three:
1. You use it more than your other weights.
2. It is clean and lacks scent.
3. Its shape is slightly different or there are unique nicks on the weigh that send out a more attractive sonic profile than your other weights.
With bead chains as well as ball bearing swivels, it is important to keep them clean and apply some WD40, or similar compound, to keep them in good working order. Be mindful of the lubricant you use, what may attract fish in one lake may put them off in another. Use Lemon Joy and a toothbrush to clean them if you suspect scent is an issue.

The weight has a different shape. More weight in the keel. I will have to pay more attention to its action in the water.
