RYO Spinner swap???

Post by fishcreekspinners » Wed Apr 14, 2010 12:32 pm

Any other wire-twisters out there interested in a spinner swap? I just twisted up five 1/12oz Copper French (RootBeer and Black) treble spinners and will run the swap if anyone is interested.

I'll be the hub that collects and distributes them back, paying postage back to you. You make 5 identical of your finest and send to me (once we get 4 other players logged in thread).

After I get them all, I deal out the swap assortment and mail them back to each participant. You'll get one of your own and one each of the others back.

We all admire the artful craftmanship and then go get them wet!

First four posts with the 5 identical spinner pictures will be in swap. I'll PM those that want to participate to exchange shipping information. Should more then 5 parties want to participate, we can decide what to do. e.g. run with five or up the number of spinners. If the thread goes dormant, we can just skip it and admire any entries via WL.com.

Here's my five little beauties!

Bump... I don't make spinners, but I just admire the idea from FishinCreekSpinners, and their fine gear of course.
Somebody jump on this.

When I was a kid I got a little kit for a gift. Had a little tool that would twist the wire for you and all the stuff needed to make spinners. It disappeared somewhere along the way. Toni's spinner making posts in the forum put a bug under me to take it up again. All I need is supplies - can anyone recommend a good place to get em? I was figuring Cabela's.

It's a great idea, and if I can get up & running on it, I'm in - but I won't commit until I have some "product" to show..

for smaller quantities - lurepartsonline.com in US (was stamina) and luremaking.com in Canada could work.

Cabela's has kits and wireformers and they were where I got my first wireformer.

If you want to get into it I would recommend spending more for a good wireformer ($130 vs $30 for smaller cheaper). I have twisted 10's of thousands on one and still going strong (converts left or right handed too). Cabela's carries them and you can also get from Hagens in SD.

Hagens sells components by thousands but they are very reasonable for breaking that down, I think to get a partial K only adds a buck.

Its like tying flys with shiny stuff and they bushel quick. You'll fill up the tacklebox, your buddies tacklebox and be selling them at the flea market before you know it!

Have fun and feel free to PM me if I didnt answer your question.

I would, but I don't know if I can do 5 that look the same. I do have a question about sending 5 and then getting one of our own back...why get one of our own back? Why not just send 4 out?

I think I could do it.

I don't have an official wire former. I use my fingers and pliers.

I see your point and thought of it, I just want it to be simple for hub guy (me) to deal them out. Four separate stacks of different spinners going to 4 correct parties might confuse this old brain. 5 identical stacks is easier to manage. It only gets worse if more parties are interested.

No problem using a pliers for the swap. Getting a wireformer just makes a more consistent finish. Wire is about the cheapest component, but an important underpinning to spinner behavior and performance (my opinions).

Lets see how the next few days go to see what happens.

That makes perfect sense to me now. It would be hard to keep track of who sent what.
Count me in if it is ok to not have a wire former.

ISLANDBASS where are you? Don't you want in to?

This is cool. Were in.

I'll look at our parts trays with I get home from work tomorrow. Most of ours is a little larger. Probably 1/2 to 3/4 oz when done.

We started out making Musky Lures so a lot of the stuff is on the larger size. But I'm pretty sure we have 1/4 oz capabilities also. I havnt looked at it since Aug so Im not 100% of my inventory.

We mail it on that day right? Or as soon as we get done before Friday? That would be good.

I should be able to mail them next Friday (but of course I will try to get em out earlier).

We are posting pics before mailing - is that right?
