barbless / single/ treble hooksl/ upper columbia

Post by stryker17 » Sat Jul 20, 2013 8:10 pm

ok I know that we have to use barbless hooks when fishing in the upper columbia, but can we still use barbless treble hooks, like on brads baits? Or do we have to go to two single hooks? will be fishing in Brewster for 2 weeks, and may need to start to retie hooks................thanks

As long as the barbs are pinched/filed off you should be fine. Page 16 of the rule book....

Interesting note, last year the rig that caught the majority of our fish at Brewster was a pre-tied setup that I had for pinks, complete with barbless hooks. We had no lost fish on this rig, just keep the pressure up until the fish is in the net. I'd use a barbless sickle hook over a barbless trebel, especially on a Brads. If you can get a hold of them, Matzuo makes barbless hooks in Octopus and Siwash styles. I use 1/0 and 2/0 for sockeye and use 4/0 for gear that targets kings.
