Ideas on how to get your wifes 85 year old grand father let you hunt his farm?

Post by fishaholictaz » Mon Dec 29, 2008 1:56 pm

I spent Christmas on my wifes family farm and when we pulled in their were 500-750 Canadian geese in the neighbors field and geese in the air the whole time I was there. I went for a walk down the river and jumped a nice mule deer buck and ran into a lot of turkey =p~ ! The land hasn't been hunted in 50 years and there are game trails every where I sure wish I could hunt it #-o #-o ](*,) ](*,)

Start by sending them some nice Wa State homemafde jams and jellies. Then some pickled items. Then on the card state how well the jams go with biscuits and some cooked goose.Kinda sob some about the bad hunting up here.Better yet send them a fresh salmon. The best way to a mans hunting grounds is through his tummy.Hehehehe Good luck.
When youre up to your rear end in alligators, its hard to remember that the initial plan was to drain the swamp.

Have you asked him if you could hunt the land? That's the first step.

BBT,

If I were you, I would ask my wife to talk with her dad about you harvesting "just a few geese" to start. If she is still "daddy’s little girl", he might just say yes. She might also talk about doing some baking and visiting with him while she is there and you are out hunting. Or, she could mention that you would love to have him show you the ropes. It might be miserable but once your foot is in the door you could be all set. If there are that many geese in the area (add I believe you when you tell us there are) I would be surprised if he says no to harvesting a few, which won't impact the population at all. Good luck and let us know if you get to hunt there. I'd love to see some pics. You live in God’s country. Happy New Year.

Dave

bigbasstaz,
You may want to ask if there is anything on the ranch that you could help with.
Mending fences or branding cattle, putting up hay or what ever they may need help with.
As a kid I got access to a lot of hunting and fishing ground this way.

Hey Taz-
If you have kids, tell him you would like to teach them hunting/fishing skills and how to respect nature and property. My boy is old enough to hunt now and when I ask a farmer for permission, I always take him. I am hunting places this year I have never hunted before and he is having a blast. If you don't have children, I'd be happy to be your son for a weekend!:)

Thanks for all your replys guys! I have tried like a lot of people say but he doesn't think hunting is something that I should spend time/money on. I also forgot to mention that he has chased ups off his property with a loaded gun and is in a long time lawsuite trying to not allow a certian org. on his property and all they do is monitor water conditions#-o I will keep trying though and I hope in the next coule years you will see some photos of an outdoor adventure from the family farm [-o<

Ps
SPARKY- Man I'll be up there in the spring and I want to time it to hit the spawn and then I WILL claim MY spot!!!!
