That is what I use for salmon/steelhead spinners (size 3,4,5). If you are making ones that are size 1 or 2 you should go with size .028(however you could use .031)Size .035 is for very large spinners, say size 6 or bigger.

I suggest that you up size the wire over what the commercial spinners are. For example, Rooster Tails tend to bend and do not spin well after a couple of fish, but up sizing the wire one size will help a lot.
Smaller wire gives more action, but larger wire gives more durability.

You also have to take into account what your bender will allow. Most do .030 but it might not do .051. I think I think I use .030 and for the small ones .024.
