O.K. well here it is.Yersterday we trolled Sinclair Inlet,Manchester, and the Southworth ferry terminal with no luck at.Was pretty disapointed with the SouthWorth didn't show any fish on the finder at all.Went to check out the weigh station right at closing and only 19 fish had been weighed all day. With the biggest being 21lbs 11oz.Then tragedy struck the ol lady got really sick last and I sat at the hospital with her until 3:30 this morning so I decided to stay home today and take care of her.So I don't know the final results of the derby as of now.But did end up with some good info from the old native guy who was checking his nets.He said hes been laying his nets for about a month and got a grand total of only 92 fish all month. He also told me in three years the run that comes back to Sinclair Inlet will be horrible.Because last year someone turn the valves off on their rearing pens killing a million smolts. He said it wasn't a accident because it was a two man valve. Why would someone do that.He suspects that some of the home owners by the hatchery did it due to the smell of dead fish.He said since it's a terminal hatchery meaning the the fish don't spawn in the creek they make it the holding pens then are milked and egged. The hatchery is only a .25 mile from the salt and isn't very deep,he said that chinooks need atleast 14 ft of water to spawn and for the eggs to live.Well didn't catch any fish but got some good info about how the hatcheries are run in my area so all in all a good thing.

Was slow up in Area 9 on Saturday as well. Went out from 5:30 am until 6:30, tossing hardware off the beach and landed and kept a smaller 4lb hatchery, got the boat out after that and trolled for a good 3 and a half hours out there solo, lots of shakers, but did have one BIG hit, of course it was when I wasn't paying attention, pulled the rod outta the holder and it was gone....
Heard from a lot of folks its been pretty lockjaw out there...

Oh man, sorry to hear about your lady. How is she doing now?
Sucks to hear about the fry loss. But good to know not to target that area in 2011. That is a lot of lost fish. Expecially when you consider that only 10-20% that actually get out in the inlet are going to return. Man O man.
So did he say he feels that the run is late or could this little "accident" have taken place before?
I personally think it has to do with foriegn netters off the coast. And the fact that Oregon and Cali waters have been closed, so the commercial guys have come up here and get them before they even have a chance to hit the Sound. A couple of days after they made the announcement that Salmon fishing in those states was closing, Gov. Gregoire stated that our state would loose over $30 million dollars this season. It is becoming more and more apparent.
