my biggest fish (pic)

Post by big fish lite line » Tue Aug 26, 2008 5:56 pm

About a month ago I took a trip to neah bay and rented a kicker boat with some friends… I ended up catching a 40lb halibut while lingcod fishing so far my biggest fish ever. Man those halibut fight, I tried to get him off the bottom as soon as possible thinking he was a lingcod and he bent my rod in a U. The bummer of it was I had to release it because the season closed and was going to reopen in a week. Also we thought it was best not to bring it into the 17ft boat so I only got 1 picture of it in the water. I posted when I got back but did not include a picture so finally here she is
PS notice the blood clot on the boat we did end up bringing home a bunch of lings and rockfish

Wow that is a nice fish. You must have had some great friends to take
you to Neah Bay. We should go back during the actual halibut season.
Here is a pic of a halibut my dad caught. I wish we could catch em like
this at Neah.

You can never catch fish if your line isn't in the water - you don't know if you don't go

did you have to cut the line, or were you able to slide the hook out??
I have caught many fish in my life. The most exciting? The next one.....

I managed to get one hook out without losing a finger then I cut the line close to the second hook.

WOW! Your dad's halibut is one tuff fish. To be that big and still be able to be hung with such a small hook. Normally, a fish that big can only be hung by the tail. Reason being, the flesh of the fish can not hold the weight of the fish and will tear. Makes me wonder!
