carkeek steelhead?
I went out on sat with a buddy to just have some fun and we were trolling the smallest herring plug cut on 3 ounces for searun cutts and he hooka big fish which turned out to be a chrome bright 16 pound buck steely. is that a viable fishery in the a bay? what the hell was a steely doing there and it was no silver or chinook it was a steelhead.
An old man once told me that if you stick a worm on a hook drop it over the bank you can feed your self for life. I tried it modified it and geez I am beating them off with a broom now.
" Talking about the way it used to be. Skittley dit dat dow doo day. we used to pull Stripers out of san pablo bay. now the delta waters go down so cal and the stripers faded away.." (Primus)

RE:carkeek steelhead?
Nice job...I used to get Steelhead along the beach of West Point and off the bouys at Shilshole when we would tie up barges there or wait for a tow. I got one about 12lbs up at Fort Casey by Keystone ferry a few years ago. I think that a lot of people are fishing out to far from shore to get them. They seem to be in at less than 50 ft from shore and eat small bait. We saw a dozen Steelhead off Bush Point in less than 3 ft of water just 5 ft off shore. I was just walking with my wife along the beach and there they were ..Kinda kool !
When I commercial fished years ago...Trolling on the west coast... We would get Steelhead quite regular. They were common when you were fishing for coho and trolling a little to fast.
Hope it was one you could keep.
Tight lines, Steve

Fly Fishing is the art of attaching a fake bug to a line and relying on the appropriate manipulation of the rod to deceive the fish into eating a sharp steel hook covered with feathers and fur.
