not responding to questions

you know it has come to my attention that people put questions up here and sit aroundn for days while get view oafter view and not a reponse its hard for people to learn if people arent will to teach but thats my opinon and my view. but what do I know I am just a 20 year vet of the fishing world I am not trying to get under anyones skin but as I see it the reason people dont get into fishing is beacuse the more advanced people are scared of giving away secrets you just have to lknow who to give them to and who not to geive them too. is it the guy who is sporeting the fancy fishing vest and boots or the kid witht he baggy pants and back wards baseball hat? I have had issues with that I have my lip pierced and my ears pierced and I get real mean looks from the old timers cause of the way I dress and I am a very avid and technical fisherman. so people please remember that its not how we look or act its how much we want to learn. I know the answer to this is gonna be well there is always some one who ruins it for us all well thats life. thats alwaya gonna happen but we need to educate rather then hide it all.....

No offense intended, but maybe the viewers don't know the answer to the question.
I've been on both ends of this topic. It's frustrating not to get a response, but whether it's information that is intentionally withheld or no one actually knows the answer, then all you can do is accept it.
I agree with the opinion of sharing one's knowledge. That seems like what this site is all about. Take a little and give a little, so we all can have more fun fishing.

Lots of times I click on a thread to get rid of the red square, so it's easier to see the threads that have new replies.
Salt water? I know nothing. Trout? I know nothing. Walleye? I know nothing. Muskie? I know nothing.
But I like the red squares gone.

I think you are putting too much thought into it. There is a pretty good group of people on this site, and a lot of good info floating around. I know what you mean though. Most of the time a question goes w/o a lot of replies is because its the same exact Q that has been asked time and time again. Hey it happens.

Oh ya, the other web site I'm on all day, every day has a feature 'mark all read' so you don't have to click on everything. :-)

Hey Drift...I know what you mean, but I wouldn't take it personal. I seriously doubt it has ANYTHING to do with the way you look. If that were the case...I'd be the only one responding to all my threads!! There are all sorts of reasons why questions aren't jumped on. Just hang in there, keep posting questions, let the members get to know you a bit, and in no time flat you'll be getting your feelings hurt and taking things out of context in no time (just like the rest of us)!! lol I'm just kidding, but it does take some time, and several posts, to get to know someone better. Glad you asked and welcome to the site.

My wife would fall over dead if she read this. I'm not an expert on all subjects and I won't respond to a question if I don't know the answer or feel I've got something to contribute. Don't feel slighted, the person with the answer may be out on an extended fishing trip! One other thing to take note of, a question that has been answered in the past may not get another response. The forum section and the reports section both have search tools. Do a bit of research before you post a question, you'd be amazed at what is in these archives.

Is there an acual archives? Where informational threads are saved 'forever'. Or is it just threads from the past that are still here and haven't gone away yet?

The site is WashingtonLAKES, not WashingtonSALTWATER. The majority of our members aren't oriented to the saltwater. It's a growing section....
I've seen the saltwater section grow over the past few years, and its still got a long ways to go to catch up to the freshwater counterparts of this site. It is what it is. Don't expect answers and replies and pointers, be grateful for what you do get. Most folks on this site are great, but as I mentioned, we just don't have a ton of saltwater anglers so you won't get as many replies....
As gpc said, use the search function. Do some work yourself, don't just expect your thread to get replies....
I've seen plenty of topics get answered in the saltwater section lately, but as I've always said, the most important part to become a better fisherman is time on the water. Forums are great for pointers and starters, but it only goes so far.
You can have all the replies in the world to your forum posts but at the end of the day, the guys who catch the most fish do so because they have the experience that you only get from figuring it out yourself and putting your time in...

A9, I love your signature line.
"Mark all threads as read", bottom right corner of the main forum page.
Forum threads never go away, unless they are deleted by Admin or we have a major disaster.
Forum questions answered, well, that just varies. One thing is for sure - the bigger we get the more opinions and answers you'll see. And the search function as mentioned can be very useful as well. Also, there is a search feature for the main part of the site which will pull up old reports, articles, etc. There is over ten years of reports and articles in the main website (the part outside of the Forums). I can't even remember what all is on the site anymore!

I could give a rats *** what you look like as long as you are polite and want to learn I will help you out. I know a bunch about salt water fishing. Sometimes the rules throw me...LOL...(read my last posts) Anyway ....enough, ask the question and if I see it, I will be more than happy to answer it. BFN, Steve :-)

Im gonna agree..
1) I didnt know you had a pierced lip until you said so, but it doesnt matter, I have a pierced ear too.... and a tat.
2) I suck at catching so any info I give you could be considered a lie.. that would just be wrong.
3) When did they invent saltwater...?

same post from your other thread
This is how it is on most forum websites. Either people don't reply or people do and falm you because you are a noob. I have found that this place is hit or miss. But there are enough people on here that are willing to give advice if they have it. I have had most of my question answered. Just rember, if you post something between Friday and Sunday, it might not get answered. Because by monday people are more concered about posting fishing reports and bragging about there catch from the weekend.
Every forum based website I am a part of, people do the same thing. I devide people into 4 groups, these types of people are on every forum.
group 1: Those small number of people that are willing to give you advice and maybe even out to show a thing or two.
group 2: Those who will not post on your thread you started until one of the said people above does.
group 3: Those who only talked to people that they know.
group 4: Those who are only here for themselfs and can careless about anythign other than finding out where the next fishing whole is.
I am sure some people might not agree with this. I see this on my car and jeep forums and all the other fishing and hunting forums I am a part of.
I do not post much on peoples threads, due to lack of experence. I know how to fish for trout and I am learning salmon. Still trying to get out and learn some bass fishing.
Sorry if this place has put a bad taste in your mouth. I have gotten a lot of good info from here and have shared what I know here as well. <<<<---- which I know little.
The best thing you can do is not let other people get to you and share your knowlege if you are willing.

My two cents. I've always been given some form of advice to a question. The best thing is, that is never from the same person. I'm not all knowing, but when I know a little something, I like to share it.

I can't really say I've seen any post from you asking a specific question. I can see you've made 24 posts but I couldn't tell you where they were. Who am I to judge, if in a weak moment, for one reason or another you decided to engage in a little self-mutilation and poked holes in your body. We have quite a few members that have been poked with needles thousands of times and then rubbed ink in them and they seem to be able to ask questions and get answers. If you knew me a little better you'd probably be giving me the wooly eye for some of my ecentricies too.
SO, Lets start out fresh, you can stop sniveling about the different types of people on forums and step up and ask a question.
Don't be bashful, jump right up here and ask a fishing question..... Ok just ask any ole question.... We talk about all sorts of stuff here and as long as it's in the proper heading I'm pretty sure you'll get lots of answers.
Some of us have pet peeves like forming a proper sentence which means using grammar from north of the mason dixon line. So if you would be specific, think about your question and post a good one.
Example;
Good question. I'm fishing for salmon and I can't seem to get the bait in front of the fish. How can I get my bait deeper than 8 feet from the surface?
Bad question. How do I catch salmon?
We're Waiting.......
PS I'm not the shrinking violet type so don't worry about offending me....... Where's JW when we need him!!!! =)
