Well... My son, my pride and joy, turns 16 in a few weeks and will be getting his driver's license. I am looking for a car for him. He loves cars from the 60's and 70's and I have been keeping my eyes on craigslist but if any of you members know someone that has an older car, I would love to hear about it. Anything with a six cylinder, I don't want to much power for a young driver. He likes the 72 Novas and obviously the 66-68 mustangs. PM me if you have any leads. Thanks!

I grew up on Camaros.My 67 SS was awesome. Its a v8 so that might not be what you want but what a fun car it was.You cant go wrong with a 4x4 pickup either especially if he likes the outdoors.

I'd have to be inclined to suggest, a Honda Civic CRX. Pretty cheap to pick up and easy to restore to a very good driving machine for a kid. The bonuses are, only 2 seats, no back seat for friends. The trouble starts when you have input from others and the likelihood of trouble increases exponentially with each new source of input. 2 seats only one rider at a time. Excellent gas mileage, rivaling that of most of the hybrids. They're kind of sporty and handle like a bomb. Great kids car. Insurance, you say, the civic is going to be way cheaper to insure than any classic/muscle regardless of engine size and 4X4 well.... you don't want anyone under 25 with 10 feet of the drivers seat if you're picking up the bill.

Lots of insurance companies won't insure a muscle car belonging to a person under 25 . Most classic car insurance companies won't.

And with most classic car companies the muscle/classic car can't be a daily driver anyway. AND the person has to have, and prove that they have, a seperate daily driver. AND most classic car insurance companies insist that the car be kept in a garage, not lean-to, a fully inclosed garage.

Now if you get a 6 cylinder then the regular ins. companies won't piss and moan quite so much.
