I have had similar experiences while shore fishing, and unfortunately about half the people (or so it seems) are doing it just for confrontations sake. They know what they're doing and don't care. The other half are just ignorant to the fact that what they're doing might be bothersome. What I've done in the past if I just can't ignore the problem any longer and the person or people appear to be reasonable is politely tell them that I know they are out to have a good time and I don't want to interfere with that, but you are trying to enjoy yourself too. A suggestion of another place close by where they can keep doing what they're doing while at the same time not disrupt you or anyone else is often a good bet.

9 out of 10 times they leave with a handshake and you've made a friend, it's that 10th time that bothers me... You never know what people will do.

Good luck out there and be safe.

I was at pine lake park today when a bunch of teenage girls decided to lay thier towels behind me and started sun bathing. How am I suppose to cast my 7 ft leader and not hook those girls? Then they started to talk about girl stuff while listening to the spice girls.I finally had enough and moved to the other side of the dock.

Your rude behavior for the shore bound fisherman extends beyond docks and even Western WA. Today, I lost my temper on a twin to "Ma Barker" and her husband in a wheelchair. On an Eastern WA lake with very limited shore access, "Ma" decided to move in Cowliz/Blue Creek- fashion on me without so much as a request of, "May we fish next to you?"; after my elderly friend decided to leave me. "Ma" and her husband had showed up late and moved in on my other friend; crowding him at barely arm's length; prior to the incident. Normally, I just say, "Well screw it" and move on, but today I'll admit to losing my temper and confronting the rudeness. "Ma" seemed to think moving into close confines a second time was NO PROBLEM; as after all, "The guy next to you left..." I explained, "That guy was a close friend and not a late arriver with THREE POLES; who couldn't cast sraight!!!" Anyway, not a very nice end to a fishing trip. "Ma" and her H/C campanion had plenty of other bank space; they just perchieved my claim as "THE SPOT".

Pack your pistol in a hip holster and let the butt end show. That usually works. All kidding aside. I think you need to start polite and ask them to stop riding on the dock. If its a city or county dock there should be signs saying no bikes on dock. Of course in Snohomish County (Land of the Tweakers) signs are probably cashed in.

Not to be a buzz kill or anything but last time I was there, there was a sign saying darn near anything but sitting with your hands folded in your lap was against the rules. As I recall, it specificly stated, no smoking in the park, no skateboards, bikes or wheels, and no fishing off the pier. Very well could have changed but.......

Unless they have more friends than you...

I got into it with a guy chasing schools of pink salmon down a very crowded pier (back in Michigan). The guy fishing next to me was an off duty cop who was also bitching about the guy. I figured since the off duty cop didn't like the guy doing it either I'd say something next time he bumped between us. I politely informed him that coming between people that are only fishing 3' apart anyway was a good way to tangle lines and there are plenty of pinks to go around. Guy and his buddies didn't like that one bit, and the cop didn't say a word.

The kicker is, I was there the next day and there was hardly anyone fishing. The school chaser was there again and started talking to me, not recognizing me at all, and he proceeded to tell me about this guy the day before that gave him grief for chasing schools in the crowd.

They almost always have more friends then I do but there still gonna hear about it. So sick of people trying to not offend or disturb people that are simply there to ef up your day on purpose. Not the best advise for someone that's not ready to stand there ground though. Good times, most of them have no spine if you call em out.
