Hey all,
I have been eyeing a couple of rivers around here, and have been wondering something for some time: Can, and will, fish be able to pass over "diversion style" dams... short dams that really represent nothing more than a small set of falls to a fish. These places seem like they would be navigable by many fish species, especially those known for being found way up in river systems...
I'm looking at the Methow in Particular. There is a section upstream of Foghorn Dam that has it's own little season (I don't know if it's open now or not... anadromous fish do find their way into the Methow, after all)... and it looks much easier to wade fish than the lower section, as well as more out of the way, which I prefer. I'm not a fan of fishing a hole just to have some drift boat come down anchor in the middle of my swing.
Any advice or knowledge would be appreciated.

Diversion Dams and Fish
You never know what you'll discover..... If you take a couple of steps into the water.
Re: Diversion Dams and Fish
I have seen and heard of fish going up the creeks! Specifically the middle fork Nooksack diversion dam which will be open to fishing if, and I say if the rivers rise and fish can easily pass! problem really is that if the pools don't fill up with lack of water flow there won't budge past the other lower pools..... I sure hope the nooksack gets some flow this year to push the fish past the hatchery at Kendall creek.... I was under the impression from John that the methow was totally closed......
