Northwest Fishing Reports

I moved to spokane from the seattle area and i havnt been fishing since because i only fished saltwater i dont really know what to do here so i did end up buying a lighter rod and reel this month wanting to get back in it.... Any tips and tricks the closest lake i live by is long lake and i went down there the other day and the water is real high and seems to be moving extreamely fast...

Long Lake is excellent for Small Mouth Bass, some Large Mouth Bass, Crappie, etc. It is not noted for trout, but I have caught several there.

When the Spokane River is running high like it is now, Long is a mess. The actual water level never changes more then a couple of feet during the summer, but they do draw it down during the winter for weed control.

Shore access is limited. There is some shore access West of Tum Tum, and at the river at the Spokane House near the little Spokane River. Additionally, there is a State Park on the upper end and a Department of Natural Resources park downriver on the lake.

Your best bet is to get involved with a friend that enjoys fishing for Bass. Years of learning can be shortened to a few trips with a good mentor. There are Bass Fisherman on Washington Laks thay may hook up with you was well. Of course, YouTube can help provide techniques, etc.

For whatever it is worth, watching bass fishing shows on TV can help. If I were to suggest one method, I would suggest that it would be best to use something like a "ShadRap" from Rapala, working the shoreline, starting the first of June. It does not always work, but it will get you started.

Yeah i am looking for some simple tips to just be able to enjoy the summer a bit more before i get crazy with it my co workers are taking me out to williams lake the 3rd of june to do some trout fishing but i prefer (lack of better terminoligy) a white meated fish for eating and i have enjoyed a small mouth fishing trip to roosevelt before. Thank you for all the info i did take a drive along long lake last weekend and there is very little shore access i noticed for how large the lake is.

There is some walk in access from the South side, but I always use my boat.
