Welcome to the Cowlitz River Clownshow!!

Post by Matt » Sun Apr 24, 2011 4:33 pm

What a joke!

Down on the Cowlitz yesterday this was the scene, guys on seadoo's "drift" fishing, and this Darwin Award nominee who launched his 21' Trophy Dual outboard offshore rig at blue creek!!

Evidently, this guy was running downriver shooting huge softball size rocks 10+ feet in the air as his 2 Merc outboards dug their own channel, he made it to the first corner down before losing power (and his props and likely lower units) and continuing to smash into the high wall below blue creek.

That second picture just makes me laugh! Reminds me of one time watching a guy try to run a 25 foot bayliner up into thomas eddy on the snoho.
My rod and reel, they comfort me.

LOL. Saw some guys a couple years ago lauch a 19 foot inboard Bayliner on the Yakima at West Richland. You can wade across the river in many areas there and there are also some big boulders. Wonder if they ever made it back.

I was wondering what that boat was doing down there. That's a ridiculous waste of money.

It seems everytime I reconsider running down to the Cow to do a little fishing, the good folks of this site remind me why I stopped going in the first place. Thanks, guys and gals!

PS - It won't be long before someone slaps an anchor system on a PWC. Once that happens, I can only imagine what that river will look like.

Have seen seadoos at bluecreek before.

Cant believe they made it out of there alive on that boat. Wonder if anybody warned him at the launch or if they just laughed. I would have told him its not such a good idea. Lol

I got an update on the situation from another board. Apparently the person who launched the trophy was THE SAME GUY using a jetski to drift fish. His ski lost battery power down the side channel below BC so he walked up stream, drove home, got the tuna boat, launched, floated down the side channel to retrieve his jetski and was churning up the bottom on the way back up out of the side channel trying to get back to the launch, he spun both props, lost power, then slammed into the wall below BC (you can see dirt on the front of the boat, and the handrail is all mangled). He then got towed across the river to the sandbar right across from the high wall below BC where he used his newer dodge diesel to attempt pulling the boat out at the private property on the sandbar. He nearly sank the truck and trailer doing so and was lucky to get the boat out without losing the jetski, his truck, trailer, AND the boat.

Wow, that sounds like a string of bad luck brought on by a myriad of poor choices. I hate to speculate on how much that trip cost that dude, because for the price of all the damage he could probably get a drift boat and save himself the trouble.

I'm speachless....... Well I've seen the pair on the jet ski's and they have nearly got the anchor. So I guess the rest of the story isn't so suprising. That stacks up to one bad day on the water!!!!

[omg] I wouldn't even go so far as to say it was bad luck, just bad choices. I fail to understand how people who operate under this kind of logic ever make any money to waste in the first place. :-s

I know right. That's the biggest mystery. I'm guessing credit and financing.

My oh my! This guy makes the old saying "more money than brains" a gross understatement. I've seen some dumb things on the water but this may take the cake!

Some more info that was posted on Ifish.

Yeah, We saw the giant boat sitting on Anderson bar. God what a crazzy site that was to see. We also got to see them try to pull the boat out of the water. Holy cow what is wrong with that guy?!?!?! First he burried his crew cab f350 to the axels in the gravel. Then they tried to pull the stuck f350, boat and trailer out with a f-150. Broke a few tow straps! After learning their tow rig was no where near big enough. They called in a back hoe. The excitment didn't stop there! OK If your ever getting pulled out by heavy equipment... do not just floor it the whole way up the bank. Your not doing any thing by it. This guy dug huge ruts to the axels the whole way up the bank as the back hoe pulled him out.

Just when you think you seen it all. lol

I second that. There's something about train wrecks that human nature is just drawn to.
