RE:Windmills!!
Holy Mary, mother of God!
Let me begin by saying that I am not a regular poster on this website, I’m just a lurker who reads the posts and soaks up whatever information I can regarding fishing. I also enjoy reading the “off topic” forum. But I felt that I had to sign up, simply so that I could reply to this thread.
First of all, nuclear power, wind power, solar power, pedal power; it doesn’t make any difference where the power comes from if it’s being used to run computers so that people can argue like little girls. If all we can do is whine and cry and moan, then maybe we should take a cue from the Amish and not use any electricity at all. You’d get more fishing time, plus you’d get to build a barn every other month. Good times.
Now for the whining, crying and moaning:
1) iPodrodder: You told LR that he should take his debate somewhere else as soon as he said something you didn’t like regarding Bassackwards. That seems to be a little bit of the ol’ pot and kettle conversation, considering that, in the 2nd post of this thread, you said (and I quote): “Bassackwards works for PSE. Grill him.” By definition, to grill someone is “to question relentlessly; to torture or afflict as if by broiling; to torment with heat”. When LR proceeded to do just that, you suddenly decided that he should go somewhere else. Can you say “hypocrite”, boys and girls?
2) Littleriver: You told gas station attendants that if they were committed to wind power they should build the windmills in their own backyard and then get off the grid??? I seriously hope this was not a real live conversation. If it was, that is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard. They’re GAS STATION ATTENDANTS!!! My uncle is a gas station attendant, and has been for a long time. You know why he’s a gas station attendant? Because he’s stump dumb. Now I’m sure there are some extremely intelligent gas station attendants out there, people who are in that job simply for the sheer thrill of pumping gas all day, the great salary and unbeatable benefits, but your average attendant doesn’t know the difference between a Hershey bar and a plate full of bear dung, much less the difference between power sources. Questioning and/or berating these people simply goes to prove that you are not really interested in debating, but simply in making other people feel bad if their opinion differs from your own. For shame.
3) Kafelafish and Drewp: The two of you are both trying to get the last word in, in an argument about who is more concerned with getting the last word in. Now, this would be exciting, but unfortunately, I’ve already seen this argument played out to the end. It involved my six-year-old, Alicia, and a little boy in her first grade class. The argument lasted approximately 20 minutes, consisted of nothing but the words “Nuh-uh” and “Uh-huh”, and finally reached a climax when both parties were distracted by the promise of delicious cookies. I don’t have any cookies to offer you, but maybe if you call your mommy, she will.
4) EastsideRedneck: You claim that you “know for a fact that rad poisoning claims are bogus”, simply because you weren’t poisoned (that you know of). Do you have any idea how atrocious that statement is? That’s the same as saying that there is no such thing as herpes, because you’ve bumped uglies with lots of girls who “claim” they have herpes, but you never caught it. There is plenty of scientific research to back up radiation poisoning claims (although most of it was gathered using standard scientific methods and not by people drinking coolant, so it may not be accurate), and although it is rare to get radiation poisoning simply from working at a nuclear facility, it does happen, particularly when mistakes are made. We’ll see which tune you’re singing when your son or daughter develops cancer at age 10.
5) Bassackwards: You DID take your ball and go home. You say that LR will “come up with a clever way to spin” whatever you say, but that, in itself, is just a clever way of spinning what LR already said. Now it’s obvious that LR has a problem with PSE, so when he “questioned” your employment, he was actually complimenting you, albeit in a round-about way. He was saying that he was surprised that a guy like you was an employee at such a God-awful place as PSE. But instead of accepting his compliment and refuting the arguments he made, you decided to weep about it and suck your thumb. This is clearly a tactic to avoid addressing the points that LR made, because even if you want to construe what he said as an insult, I’m sure you’ve been called worse. Like Iskiles said: “Man up”.
6) Iskiles: You seem to have some sort of hatred for “collegeboys” and “professors” and all the crazy lies they like to tell the public. Have you ever had a conversation with a professor? Have you ever taken a college class? Have you ever set foot on a college campus? The majority of professors are in the business of encouraging people to think for themselves. Obviously there are some who have a different agenda, but most are genuinely interested in learning and expanding the knowledge base. Do you really think there’s a conspiracy among professors to lie about power sources? And why is it that so many different educated people agree on the topic? I doubt it has anything to do with the research and evidence available, and probably more to do with the explicit instructions they’re given at their midnight meetings, under the full moon, just before they feast on blood.
While arguing (or “debating”) online solves nothing in the first place, getting mad and weeping about it solves even less. Having a discussion, with differing points of view, is always entertaining, and people just might learn a thing or two, but when people get all mad, then it just turns into a third grade slap-fest, without any of the slapping.
A couple of people mentioned the idea of censorship, and how censoring or not censoring might cause members to leave. This isn’t nearly as bad, however, as the very likely possibility that if this whining and weeping keeps up, the whole website could get shut down. Seriously. I just talked to a representative from Massengill, who was threatening to sue for copyright infringement.

Mytch,
Was your whole recap of this thread necessary?
If you complain and accuse us of "whining, crying and moaning" then what would you call your post? Your stirring the pot more and doing exactly what you criticize us of.
Lastly, welcome to washingtonlakes.com

RE:Windmills!!
Interesting choice of a first post on a fishing focused website... after lurking for a while you found this to be a worthwhile thread to respond to?
First off- Thanks for the veiled threat of cancer for my children. Classy. Not all cases of radiation poisoning are legitimate or occupationally related. You seem to be a self-proclaimed expert on spin so you should be able to figure out how anti-nuclear groups take full advantage of any opportunity to sensationalize trivial occurances. When policy and procedure are followed in spirit and action a large majority of these cases would not have occurred. That's like sueing my employer because I stuck my finger in a light socket and got electrocuted (only an example). Oh, by the way I am college educated and intimately familiar with the scientific method. I, unlike some people, am willing to put my faith and understanding to the test through action.
As for the rest, if you took some time and read many of the posts on this website (which you lay claim to) you could glean a better understanding of what is good natured fun and what is pointed debate. Lay off of your critcism of Sam & Drew. Hillbillies, collegians, or otherwise we are not forcing anyone to accept or agree with our beliefs. We may argue, piss, moan, and complain about stuff while trying to get someone to take up arms on our side of a discussion but we are in no way endangering free thought.
Go back to sipping your coffee and continue your parasitic behavior- learning without contributing and engaging in the free flow of ideas and information, or better yet- stick around and join in on the conversations about fishing.
Mr. Magler-
We have no way to dispose of plastics, batteries, or petrochemicals either.... Sure, we can reuse them for a while but it takes large amounts of energy to do it.

I do not know why, but I am always surprised that whenever I criticize college boys and unionist they claim my criticism comes from envy or past rejection. The reasons and far flung from that. I have met and interacted with many college professors and instructors. I have met very few who were not full of themselves. Most I have met teach because they want to help us poor ignorant members of the unwashed masses. If you bring real debate to a college campus these days you are treated as ignorant, a hater or worse as a God-fearer.
I do not believe there is a conspiracy in the classic sense but I am reminded of a lecture I heard some time ago (not on a college campus) where the speaker was asked why so many people believed the theory of evolution. His response was that so many believe because so many believe. If you go against the crowd they will turn on you. So many are more interested in keeping their jobs than any real academia.
Nuclear power is very unpopular in elitist circles. I do not believe that advocacy of such would result in a college professor winning points with his peers or superiors because, for the most part, it is a very liberal crowd.
Yes, I am a hillbilly. My great-grandfather married one of the Hatfield girls of the Hatfield and McCoy feud brought her out to eastern Washington and some of are still in those hills. I like fried venison steak and fish dipped in Bisquick and fried in shortening and sometimes Dolly Parton can make me cry. But I am not stupid or reactionary.

Eastside Redneck -
THIS FORUM IS ABOUT NUCLEAR POWER VS. WIND POWER. What the hell does disposing of plastics have to do with nuclear waste disposal??????? I don't like plastics for that reason either. You're comment has nothing to do with this discussion. Thank you very little.
Mytch -
I like your hilarious summary, but your only on-topic point was incredibly dumb. Your solution is to live like the Amish? You used power to write your whiny rant, pal. You obviously have nothing to contribute to the topic, but instead decided you needed to criticize everyone else. That's very hypocritical of you.
I'm not complaining though, it is called the "Off Topic" forum, after all. I had a good laugh over it, so thank you for that.

Coincidentally, I feel offroading has much more of an impact that what windmills would have. Sure windmills have one hell of a footprint and close areas once open. But the offroading erodes the soil, not to mention spilt fuels, oils...oh, yeah the trash some of them leave behind.littleriver wrote:I have history in the colockum. First off, who said anything about Chernoble? Another uneducated comment from you. No surprise there.
I actually said that nuclear power may be a good way to go if we can develop better radioactive waste disposal methods or by using hybrid nuclear reactors that don't produce as much waste. But nice work on all the "blah-blahs". I can tell you're a real genius.
As for my previous sidenote......littleriver will understand. Maybe if you think really hard that hamster in your brain will start turning the wheel, Iskiles.](./images/smilies/eusa_wall.gif)

RE:Windmills!!
Sammy Sammy Sammy. You bring up an excellent point. In my favor. Perhaps you should walk around with your hands held above your head to catch the many things that fly right over it.
Eastside Redneck, I do know how anti-nuclear groups will take advantage of any trivial occurance, but the same is true on the other side of the coin. Pro-nuclear groups do the exact same thing. In fact, any interest group, regardless of their cause, will take every opportunity they can to further their own ideals. I realize that the majority of radiation poisoning cases were caused by careless accidents, and you’re absolutely right that they could have been avoided. The point is, accidents will happen and people will be careless, no matter what. There simply is no getting around that. And when it does, the poisoning that occurs is far from “bogus”.
Shawn, are you serious?
Iskiles, I never once intimated that you were a hillbilly, so I’m not sure where you got that, although you seem to be proud of the fact. I simply can’t believe that you’ve really been around a college if you think that professors and “collegeboys” are all out to spread misinformation. If you bring unpopular thought to a college campus these days, you will be listened to, and many people will try to prove why you’re wrong, but if you have good evidence to back up your arguments, then you are not treated as ignorant or a hater. You are only treated like that when your arguments are ignorant. Case in point, your response to the arguments that Mr. Magler brought up. As for your speaker and why so many people believe in the theory of evolution, the exact same thing holds true for why so many people DON”T believe in the theory of evolution.
Mr. Magler, thank you for recognizing the humor in my previous post, but why are you so disillusioned with the Amish? You think their way of life is “incredibly dumb”? I was simply saying that if all we can do is bicker, then it would be better not to have the internet at all.
Nuff said. I’ll get back to sipping my coffee and sucking the life out of this message board until it’s time to find a new host.

I regret my personal attacks on you. I'm sorry. I was just frustrated by you not responding to my points, but rather with "blah, blah, blah".
If posing tough questions about nuclear power has alienated you though, then that's your bad - not mine. I invite you to open your mind, and try learning from both sides of this issue. To say that I've "got some learnin' to do, boy", is very hypocritical. Try educating yourself on the topic from both sides of the issue, then get back to me. You clump me together with "no-nuke" activists, which is way off base. I am by no means against nuclear power altogether. You chose to take the lazy way out by trying to put me into some extremist category so that you don't have to actually make a point.

You're absolutely right about disposal of plastics and other non-nuclear waste being a problem we are currently faced with. We can tackle that issue in a different forum if you'd like. This debate, however, is about the pros and cons of wind and nuclear power generation. So, unless you're talking about generating power with plastic, then it has absolutely nothing to do with this debate.

Why don't you go find another forum to listen in on and then participate only to bash people?
Do us all a favor and spend your time elsewhere...

RE:Windmills!!
mytch owed!?! What? Where did you come from? You were a lurker on this site and that was best 1st post you could come up with? I usually steer clear of the arguments that happen on this site, but you were way out of line. Your 1st post was bashing everybody who had commented on the thread? You are sorry. Then to even mention a mans kids getting cancer!?! You are a sick, sorry humane being and I pity you. You had nothing better to do than to write 7+ paragraphs bashing people. I really feel sorry for you, but I guess some people have nothing else better to do, which is sad. So keep posting your book long insults, but try to stay focused and get out on the water every once in a while, you really need it man. Once again, you are a sick sorry humane being and I pity you.
Mike, Aaron, all the Mods. and all the WL.coms I apologize. I realize this is out of line. But I was really offended by the stuff that was posted. But to the rest of the family FISH ON.

[quote="Mytch Owed"]Holy Mary, mother of God!
Let me begin by saying that I am not a regular poster on this website, I’m just a lurker who reads the posts and soaks up whatever information I can regarding fishing. I also enjoy reading the “off topic” forum. But I felt that I had to sign up, simply so that I could reply to this thread.
First of all, nuclear power, wind power, solar power, pedal power]
FYI, that "Grill him" post came before I knew a bashing war was coming. This was lighthearted, as it should be in the WL.com FAMILY (WHICH INCLUDES BASSACKWARDS! I WOULD NEVER TRY TO TORTURE HIM WITH WORDS!)
LR, your points are valid and I agree with many if not all of them. Good job.
Now, as for me 'manning up', and asking LR to tone it down or move elsewhere, I was trying to stop a bash war like this before it came. I wonder what would have happened if I did 'man up' and let all this stuff slide.
PLEASE EVERYONE, STOP THE NAME CALLING AND DO WHAT GPC AND SAM HAVE BEEN DOING THE LAST TWO POSTS. Lighten up and look at the topic at hand, which is those horrible windmills going up everywhere.
If this stuff keeps up, I may lock this thread.

RE:Windmills!!
Nah gpc I wish I could be out there. Unfortunately I'm off out of state at school. Hopefully I'll get to do some bassing here soon cause some buddies I've met here know some good bass lakes around here...
Now if there was just a way I could get a tacklebox and a rod down here...
Can't wait for thanksgiving break and a xmas break...40 days off between the two breaks and I'll be looking to fish as much as possible
