Nectarines and Peaches FYI

Post by racfish » Tue Aug 24, 2010 2:50 pm

Right now at Thorps fruit stand they have Peaches and Nectarines for $7.50 a box. They are not A quality in looks but they are AAAAplus in flavor. Its well worth it. Im going back this weekend for a few more cases. For those who can peaches like myself they are Freestone variety. The best for canning.

Is that the fruit stand in Thorp, as in exit 100 off of I-90?

For those in the Spokane area, Greenbluff is getting into swing with the fall harvest. I got some Red Haven peaches last week that were absolutely superb.[thumbsup]

Hey, Racfish, you drive a lot for work or something?

2 hours each way is a bit for Peaches. Do you know if any of those varieties have been shipped to this area?

I'll stop by Carpentinos on the way home and see what their fruit looks like.

I'll tell you a lil something.I really go nowhere in traveling.Im going to New York for my nieces wedding in Oct. and I'm dreading it.I really hate going out of state. So for me Driving to Yakima/Wapato or anywhere east is my big passion for traveling.I really love our state. (minus the political arena). For berries I go to Skagit Valley or the Orting area. For corn now its Yakima,in another month Burlington.I like traveling our state spending a few dollars here and there. Its my way of stimulating our states economy.I could go to Carpinitos or the like but when I make preserves and pickled products I prefer farm fresh fruits and veggies. Now also I take my fly fishing gear and cast a lil while in the Yakima river,Rocky Ford Reach,Crab creek and so on. I take my panfish gear and trout gear. I sometimes go for just an overnighter to buy a and fish a lil.
Is it worth the savings in money?nope. Its the peace and relaxation I have just doing the drive there and back.In Yakima on Fair ave. is this Mexican Restaurant where the food is worth the drive."Salsita". In the Yakima area there is a Hispanic supermarket called Fiesta Foods. This place is another wothwhile place to go. The Wal-mart in Yakima is the states 2nd largest Wallyworld.I love that dry desert 100 degree heat. Now the Kicker....I got a lil bird I see in the Buena/Toppenish area too.Hehehe Remember to support our local farmers and their families. Buy Washington produce.
