LOWER YAKIMA SMALLMOUTH FISHERY!
IVE BEEN HITIING THE LOWER YAKIMA RIVER BELOW RICHLAND,WA FOR SMALLMOUTH BASS. IVE BEEN DOING REALLY WELL SHORE FISHING W/ SMALL GRUBS. I WOULD LIKE TO FLOAT THIS PART OF THE YAK, BUT, NO FLOATABLE BOAT (MINES GETTING A NASTY HOLE REPAIRED), DUE TO THE GREAT FISHING THAT IS GOING ON HERE. ANYONE INTERESTED IN FLOATING THIS WITH SOMEONE WHO HAS BEEN FISHING THIS STRETCH OF THE RIVER FOR 20 YEARS, DROP ME A LINE. I CAN GET YOU INTO A TON OF SMALLIES, AS WELL AS, SOME LARGE CATFISH. I GO OVER EVERY OTHER WEEK-END TO MY GIRLFRIENDS IN WEST RICHLAND. I HAVE BUDDIES THAT FISH IT REGULARLY WHO LIVE THERE, BUT IM LOOKING TO FIND PEOPLE FROM KING COUNTY TO GO OVER EVERY ONCE IN AWHILE. LET ME KNOW IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED. A GUIDE WOULD COST YA A BUNDLE, FOR WHAT KNOWLEDGE I WILL GIVE FOR FREE AND A FLOAT RIDE!

I'd love to have some of your knowledge, unfortunately I do not have a boat. I'd really like to get into some cats.

RE:LOWER YAKIMA SMALLMOUTH FISHERY!
Nice to hear the lower yakima is still a good smallmouth fishery..
I worked it quite a bit when I lived over there, but that was couple decades ago...
When you say "lower yakima" are you talking about horn rapids to bateman island or do you include the stretch from Benton City down to horn rapids....???
I used to do pretty well from Benton City on down..... never really targeted catfish but every once in a while one would hit my rapala or spinner bait....
oh yeah... I have a 12 foot mckenzie style drift boat that would be perfect for that sized river....
When I lived over there I used to float it in a 12 foot jon boat.... the mckenzie design works much better....
and Mike, you really need to share with us how you got the nasty hole in your boat...
I mean, that kind of stuff is important to those who might be joining you for a drift...

Fish doesn't smell "fishy" because it's fish. Fish smells "fishy" when it's rotten.

RE:LOWER YAKIMA SMALLMOUTH FISHERY!
i got the hole from lending it to a family member, who in turn, used it on potholes resevoir, which as people who have been there know, is rather rocky. my family member also lost 2 anchors in the rocks off of old'sullivan dam. its taken awhile for my family member to pay for the damages, but im hoping to get back out there. you really need a smaller craft than what i have anyways for the lower yak. i like to put in after horn rapids, but ive been catching the larger fish a mile from batemans and the columbia. i wished i had my digital camera for pics. i will have it this week-end, i have a feeling about some "BIG" fish being coaught this week-end. dbaker, there is river access for bank angling all over the lower yakima. there is a 30 foot easement for the river from 1/2 hour before sunrise to 1/2 hour after sunset. i regularly walk/wade a mile or so, find a hole and bank fish for a couple of hours, plus, property owners are pretty friendly if you knock on thier door and ask politely to fish the river on thier property.

dbaker, i will be hitting the lower yakima at 5 am on saturday am. im going to wade from west richland, then sunday am from below horn rapids. i will have my 2 nephews, but there is room for 4-5 rods in every stretch, if your available either morning, let me know. if not in the am let me know what species you want to target and i will pass on a couple of good "holes".
