Recommendations for cleaning up spinner blades.
So I ask the masses.... It's probably just time for me to invest in some new Vibrax spinnners, but I have between 20-30 that I use in the salt from the beach. Of course I rinse them well afterwords, but they have really lost their shine. Can anyone recommend something to use on the blades and bodies to shine them up?
RSEAS had recommended "Bar Keepers Friend" product.

Quad,
I've been able to polish some of my brass blades with light acids (i.e. vinegar, lemon juice), or nickle ones with car polishing compound. Some just don't seem to shine.
Anyhow, here is a link that I ran across.
Good luck.
other forum, same question.

Anybody ever use Brasso? It worked great on belt buckles when I was in the Army. Silver polish might work as well.
Where you go is less important than how you get there.

I use Brasso on my metal flashers, dodgers and spinner blades when they tarnish and toothpaste won't do the job. Just be sure to rinse it all off and re-wash with Lemon Joy.

I haven't used it before, but it looks like it would be easy and quick to use. Just dip them into the solution and wipe off, much like the common sterling silver cleaners on the market today.

Yeah, Lo Tech, I originally used brasso. I too spent many hours polishing a belt buckle for uncle Sam, LOL. I did not get much of a benefit from the brasso on the blades. I will try a one other recommendation.... and then I think it's just time to break down for a new handful of spinners.Lotech Joe wrote:Anybody ever use Brasso? Im with the rest. I use Vinager/salt for copper and brass. I use brasso or a brand like it for the silvery ones. There is a stuff I use on my boat railing , works well to rid them of salt staining.

When youre up to your rear end in alligators, its hard to remember that the initial plan was to drain the swamp.

I've got a 6" wire wheel rated at "fine", been meaning to give it a try on some of my own old spinner blades. Anybody every tried it? Quad - you are welcome ot come over and give it a try (especially if you are going to trash em anyway).

I fish not because I regard fishing as being terribly important, but because I suspect that so many of the other concerns of men are equally unimportant, and not nearly so much fun. ~ John Volker

Again, try Bar Keepers Friend and an old toothbrush. A little water, some BKF and they will look like new. If you have the need to do a test shining just try it on an old corroded penny, old Abe will come out shiny and new.

Actually, you just gave me an idea! I have a rock tumbler I use to clean up the change & stuff I find with my metal detector (always looking for the easy way). It works really well and I bet it would work from those blades also, of course it would take the paint off the bell on the blue foxes too...rseas wrote:If you have the need to do a test shining just try it on an old corroded penny, old Abe will come out shiny and new.
