I Need Some Advice!

Post by RiverChromeGS » Tue Jun 12, 2012 12:21 am

Hey guys, as the fall salmon season approaches, I am going to be a licensed and insured guide by then, and have just finished creating my Website. Now its the first time ive ever created a website, and would REALLY appreciate it if you guys could take a look at the site and let me know if I should add/remove anything, if theres errors, etc... Thanks guys, and input is seriously appreciated, and I will be publishing the site with the "homestead" part removed once i get enough input!

Wow nice, I would be updating that report page each day you go out unlike other guides and 100 bucks for a walk in to the cascade is a little much for like a hour or two of fishing maybe 50-75 bucks per person but thats your call I guess and maybe put tactics and tips section also. Other than that it is really cool, nice job. good luck.

Site looks great. The only comment I have is largely a quirk of mine. In your pricing, you have the dollar sign after the amount e.g. 175$ vs.$175. Minor? Picky? Yea. But the rest is so good! Just my 2 cents worth! Good luck!

yea i hear ya, i was just thinking since its so much farther away id ask a lil more for the gas, and i have some good holes that produce fish past the first few hours of the day so i think it should be good, i might lower it tho, also, during coho season on cascade clients can catch silvers till their arms fall off, well see

Thanks everyone for the input!

Minor spelling error:

On your Service/Rates page:

At River Chrome Guide Service, we value putting clients on the fish they signed up to catch. As a result, we have a general policy that says not matter what, if you do not catch a fish on a trip with us, we will automatically give you 50% off the next trip you book with us!

Change ...general policy that says not matter what... to ...general policy that says no matter what...

Website looks pretty good. Good luck!

also, i am having some minor trouble wondering if my rates are ok for guiding. I am juggling a lot of ideas and cant decide if my rates are ok. I will be bank guiding so obviously it cannot be as expensive as a river boat guide, but they charge 150 a person usually. Also, i do not want to go to cheap, because if i go too cheap, then it might look like the service is a joke. What do you guys think? prices for the rivers closer to town being 75 a person too low, too high, perfect? input helps, thanks guys, all prices are based on a 6-8 hour fishing day, which i will post on the website,

Looks good. $75 is perfect. I like the pic of the 37 pounder on your photo page, better than the one on your main page.

yea i was thinking of putting that one on the home page, the home page fish is kinda dark, but i wanted to show that i can put you on some 40+ pounders like the boot in the pic. I think ill change it tho, i have some pics of some 25-30lb chromers i might add

Your site looks pretty good. I would buy the .com for your guide service. Right now you are going through Homestead.com.
Are you going to have a way to pay online? You will need to have that on there to if you are. Homestead and Paypal do not always work together even if homestead says they do.

As a guide service do you have to collect sales tax? There are also issues with Homestead if you do.

If I had it all to do over I would hire Nate Treat to design my site and use web hosting and blog tools it ends up being half the cost per month over Homestead.
Look for Wannafish A Lure on FaceBook

He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.

Danny has let me know he'll be joining our Guide Sponsors group. I'm really excited to see members that are part of this community use the site to promote their new businesses. Aaron and I have always strongly felt that we want to support our readers that are starting fishing related businesses by providing them a way to reach thousands of anglers without paying the hefty costs of advertising in traditional media. Good luck Danny. [thumbup]

Thanks Mike, really appreciate it, and i know its gonna be a big help!

I have just bought the domain now that my site is at the point i want it to be, as soon as we start fishing, i will be posting reports on WA lakes and my website regularly, something a lot of guides dont keep up on. Check back regularly as i will have lots of info on the current fisheries, starting this fall on chinook in late august.

NEW WEBSITE DOMAIN

Its awesome you you decided to do some bank guiding! Your prices are very reasonable, and personally Id rather pay $75-$150 for guided bank fishing then $300-$500 for a boat guide. I think you are breaking into a really new niche of river guiding. Congrats on your innovation! Your website looks great! I wish I had the knowledge to provide a guide service, I am a little jealous! I found one small grammar error under the steelhead section.

"steelhead is my favorite fish to chase, and I have( spend )many years perfecting my technique. "
Goodluck!

I have no idea what the local going rates are for similar services. You do have to consider that, especially when you're starting out. It seems to me that you're a little too low on your rates. With the price of gas and using your vehicle etc, you won't clear much. Will you be supplying gear if needed? Cost?? I think $100. for one and $50. for each additional would be a better starting place. And charging more for places farther away like the Cascade makes perfect sense. It's $20. easy r.t. from B'ham.
Good Luck!

that makes sense, i might see how it goes and raise prices if i start to get a lot of business, kinda wanna just get people to come and fish for cheap and get the word out about me before going too high, yes i will supply all gear if needed. Thanks for the tips!
