Dumbest baseball mistake ever.

Post by JT26 » Wed Mar 19, 2008 10:26 pm

Well first i want to say the good part before i say the stupidest thing ever done in baseball in my game today.
Ok so i was at bat, the pitcher throws like a perfect pitch, right down the middle. I swing, hear the metal sound, and run. While im running, i look and see my line drive hit the shortstop on the face. I got the man on 2nd to third. I know its kinda messed up, but i was trying to keep from laughing on my way to first. Once i got there the umps stopped the game to see if the kid was o.k. While they were doing that, the 1st base coach came over and said "its always a wierd feeling to hit someone" and i said "yeah but it kinda feels good" me and coach laughed. Its kinda mean, but that was like the first time ive hit someone in anyway since football, but it was exiting.

OK so the stupid thing was, when i was on first, coach gave me the steal sign. Pitch is thrown i go, and im at 2nd for like a second. While running i hear someone go "back JT!" so i jog back cause i thought it was fouled off. Then when i was like 10 ft away, the other teams coach goes "what are you doing, throw it" and the pitcher throws it to the first baseman, and tags me out. When i got back to the dugout i was like why did u guys say go back?!? and they were like we said go back Jake, not JT (he was the man on third and i guess he was like more than half way home when i was stealing.) I felt so stupid.

ive been playing baseball all my life, and have always played at a high level.

you gotta remember the situation you are in, and to keep your mind mentally prepared. you said its 1st and 3rd and you got the steal sign. there is no way i would ever run back, even if i heard back. if he throws to 2nd, i would rather get caught stealing, cuz chances are the guy on 3rd is now home.

now if the ball beats you there, make sure you kill enough time in a run down to get you man home.

in most cases the catcher would just let you steal the base.

either way, you should take a peek of where the ball is going after the pitch, dont simply run with your head down.

of course no one is perfect, but you can always learn from past experiences. it will allow you to bring your game to a higher level.

dont look at my above post a critique, but more as a helpful tip. ive played baseball all my life, and still play to this day. the above is just something i was taught along the way, after all we had 4 practices a week.
