Camping forum

Post by Mossy » Thu Jun 18, 2009 6:09 pm

I think a camping forum would be great for alot of us fisherman. Opened/closed parks, overnight parking, fire bans, full, hookups, boat launches, pets, public docks would be great questions to be answered before long road trips. As well as tents, sleeping bags, portable fire pits, etc ... although those might fall under product reviews.

You know, I was thinking about this samething today...I would have posted something if it hadn't already been started. A camping forum, preferable camping sites next to lakes, stream, rivers, and even beaches. Would be nice. Something to show even more primitive campsites, other then the regular state park campgrounds. There are a ton of campsites maintained by the forest service that do not have fees, but also do not have running water and/or restrooms. I think this is a great idea!

This would be great! Along with the forum, a camping report section would be cool.

I echo this. When I go camping, the first thing I check for is if there is fishing.

So it would be helpful if one of the mods would at least reply with yay,nay or looking at it. Same goes with other requests. Alot of things fall to the wayside, would be nice to know if something is being kicked around. Sorry, just another request.

We are here, and we are watching. :alien:

Honestly, my energy and motivation level is way low after taking my son to college in Montana.

It's not a bad idea for a forum, let me get motivated... OK, there you go. Have fun. :-)

When youre up to your rear end in alligators, its hard to remember that the initial plan was to drain the swamp.

Heck, I'll kick this off with a quick note on Ocean Shores. If you are going to fish out of Gray's Harbor the popular destination is Westport. Ocean Shores does have a marina complete with boat launch and RV park, you'll find it on the Southern tip of the peninsula. During peak salmon season you can expect to find an open spot in the park any day of the week. The park isn't much to write home about but it offers full hookups for RV folks and there are tent camping sites as well. A small laundry facility, showers and bathrooms are on site and are serviceable, just not pretty. There are a few hotels in the are as well so you can go that route if you wish. The launch is serviceable but during low tide it can be a bear. There is no dock immediately next to the launch so if you value your boats exterior finish two folks will be required for launching and retrieval. The camp host will also launch your boat, I don't know what the fee is or if there is any at all, so that is an alternative. The bay leading out of the marina gets very shallow during minus tides but my boat had no problems getting in and out. My favorite feature with this area is Duck lake. After fishing the salt for the day one can take out the boat and dump it into the lake for a quick spin to rinse off the boat and out the motor(s). Last year the bar was closed for the weekend and we ended up fishing the lake for a couple of days, lots of fun. I also believe that the Ocean Shores area is a bit more family friendly than Westport so while you may be out fishing, the rest of the clan can still go out and have a good time.
