Can you recommend a pack rod

Last year I picked up an Orvis frequent flyer 8 piece fly rod for hiking into the alpine lakes. This year I am looking for a spinning rod (pack rod) like an 8 piece rod, etc. Does anybody have one that they really like? You know that I'm talking about a hiking rod that breaks down into multiple pieces and packs away easily in your back pack.
I would like it to be an ultralight.

Bass Pro Shops has a few good choices. They offer a "micro-light graghite pack spinning" both in a 3 piece and 4 piece depending on length. Runs only about 50$. I own a few quality rods made at Bass pro, good quality rods! Check online

sup chris, I have the spinmatic just like the one you were lookin at. Great little rod light, limber, i matched a ultralight spinning reel to it. i say get it.

Personally I take either a 4'6" ugly stick and strap it to my pack, or a 6-7' two piece and strap it on. But I have seen several low priced compacting rods lately. I might have to try one of those.

Check out ebay...I am making one now that is a 6 piece ul 7'. Cost was less than 50.00 total with all parts. Do a search for pack rods and you will find them. Good Luck, Steve

I bought a little shakespear, i believe 4 to 5 pieces. Works great, very light and comes in its own carrier for backpacking. It was about 20 bucks.

oh ya... don't get the telescoping one... It gets stuck open when you try and show off your skills. Had a buddy do it, and couldn't get the end to retract!

I used to have one from Eagle Claw that was designed like this. A reversible butt changes from fly rod to spinning rod and was great on the Pacific Crest Trail for 2 weeks at a time. It then came in a tubular aluminum E.Claw case without the reels. This looks priced right to me.

I still have one of those rods, and I have used it all over the country. I really liked it, but haven't used it for a few years.

I had the Berkley version of the Eagle Claw. It was a 5 piece. The butt was held in place with a couple of O rings removable for fly fishing.

Wish I still had it.
