The Bonneville Pool (Columbia River Reservoir) was created when the Bonneville Dam was built across the mighty Columbia River in 1938 by the US Army Corps of Engineers. Its waters extend 45 miles upstream to the Dalles Dam. The 20,200 surface acre pool is shared by both Washington State and Oregon. On the Washington side the pool is shared by both Klickitat and Skamania Counties. This huge body of water includes most of the fish species of Washington State. Perhaps the most popular are the sturgeon, salmon, steelhead, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, walleye and shad. Photos and Overview by Bob Johansen
