Took my daughter to Potholes for some walleye fishing. Linked up with a good friend who has a place at MarDon. My daughter was a real trooper...up at 515 a.m. and didn't complain until noon! Water temps were about 65. Weather light breezes, sunny with 75 degrees. Caught walleye, bass, and rainbows on the flats at the mouth of Crab Creek (yes, the rainbows were a sruprise!). Had to be in less than 20 feet of water to get a bite. Potholes is pretty well known for the gnats that buzz you while you fish. But today was the worst I have ever seen. It got so bad we had to leave the area. And we weren't wimps because half a dozen other boats left the area too! It was definitely a hatch because at the end of the day, when I drained my live well, you could see the nymphs in the water. Anyway, a great day fishing with family and friends.

Good for you Lundegard! Couldn't be a better day in the world than to have your daughter out with you fishing! A friend and I were there on Friday the 18th too. We didn't get on the water till after 10 am. The bite must have been over by the time we got there. We had a great time even thought we didn't catch anything. We did manage to drown some nightcrawlers. I agree with you, the gnats were out in force!

Ha! Reminds me of fishing Rainy Lake in N. Minnesota except it's mosquitos there. Seemed like every year some tourismos would end up checking into the hospital from mosquito poisioning. Yep, no crap! You can get eaten alive if your not wearing the proper gear or your not juiced up with deet. All it takes is for the wind to stop and whamo the mosquitos have found you. Well good on you and your daughter, I spent the weekend getting my daughter setup in her apartment at UW, but I am spying out the Lake Union Crappie fishing for future father daughter trips..

BMGW...I counted my blessings for sure....at least the little buggers didn't bite! I recall summer evenings on waters in Northern Wisconsin with my dad...so I know what you mean about the skeeters. Hang in there with your daughter off to college. Thanks for the great comment.

I was out in the bugs last weekend with you. Took my 1 year old Grandson on his 1st camping trip, the bugs where so bad couldn't even take him in the boat. Me and his dad caught 1 walleye Sat. morning that was it. The carp were everywhere, I don't know if anyone saw but my Choc. Lab Lilly jump out of my boat after one that was close to the boat. Its wonderful that you can get your daughter out with you, trying to start the Grandson the same way.
