Been hitting this lake quite a bit since I found out about it a few weeks ago. Caught about 5 kokanee and a fat rainbow before I called it an evening around 8pm. Using barbless hook, catch and release, except for the rainbow, which another fellow on the dock asked for it after watching me throw all the kokanee back.

BTW: Does anyone know what time they open the gates in the morning? I wanted to try and hit the lake before work, but wasn't sure if the gates would be open when I get there.

Sounds good. I'll head down there tomorrow morning if it's not raining and see if I can get a few hours in before I have to head into the office. Thanks!

what were you using for the kokes? i have fished that lake for years and have caught trips but didn't know they had kokanee in there!

FYI: I went down this morning a little after 6 and the gates were locked. Waited until about 6:30 and then someone came to open them. It was pretty slow this morning, only saw a couple fish pulled out, none by me in the hour and half I was there.

@salmonbarry: I'm surprised you haven't seen any kokes come out of there if you've been fishing this lake for years. That seems to be mostly what I see pulled out from the dock. I've noticed that the guys fishing with bait at the north end of the dock tend to pull in more bows, but most of the fish pulled out of there on cast and retrieve lures seem to be kokes. I've tried a few things, but the kastmaster seems to work the best for me. I've used 1/8th oz, either blue or gold. I've seen a couple other guys pulling them out with 1/4oz kastmasters (gold), and red colored spinners (bluefox and wedding rings).

well to say I have fished it for years doesn't really tell the story- I usually hit it when they put the triploids in and then head out to other lakes.. I usually troll spinners, wedding rings or spoons but would love to try some of my kokanee gear on them.. I have a 16' smokercraft with a 8hp 4 stroke yamaha and 54lb thrust electric for trolling so i may have to give it a try soon. I am thinking maybe next Tuesday morning giving it a test so if you are on the dock and see a smokercraft with a blue top launching, give me a shout!

thanks for the tip on the gate opening- if you see the guy opening it ask him what their plan is for the summer

Just a warning..it can get frustrating in the morning. They have the gates open BY 8. Which means it can be anywhere between 6 and 759. Usually it is in the 7a to 745a range. Gate sometimes looks closed but isn't locked. I would bring a book or breakfast to kill the wait time. Otherwise its a beautiful lake! All the kokanee i've seen landed at the docks have been under 8 inches but beautiful looking fish!

Good to know, thanks for passing that along. In the future I think I'll just head down at 7:30. If it's open already, great, otherwise I don't mind waiting 15-20 minutes. Agreed on the kokanee, they are nice and bright there. I've pulled a couple around the 12 inch mark, nice fighting fish.
