1/19/2014 9:37:00 PMJust a thought. But, if memory serves correct, both your D-riggers clamp to the side of the boat? Take the one on the driver side (port) that is in the front of the boat, move it back, as close to you as possible and clamp in that position. Move the one at your back, forward for the partner riding shotgun for the day to use. Then, you can look at the sounder, and at your rod at a glance! Your boat lay out is identical on both sides. Except for the swivel front seat, and rod holder attached to it, might need to swap positions. If you feel boat balance, due to body seating position, and d-rigger position is an issue.

1/19/2014 9:43:00 PMYour rod should be fished on the opposite side of the boat from where you are sitting, it makes viewing the rod much easier.

1/19/2014 9:45:00 PMYes, I've done that before. I just don't like the starboard rigger to be to forward in the boat, as it makes me a little uncomfortable when making turns. Probably just need to do it, and get used to it. But for the rigger to be moved far enough forward to be claimed by front seat dude, it would REALLY be moving forward.

1/20/2014 11:20:00 AMThe comment was based on the downriggers staggered locations, which was: One near the back of the boat on the starboard side (behind the drivers back), the other in the front of the boat (near the front seat) on the port side.
The suggestion was to reverse those positions (but that is based on the positions I last saw them). Placing the dr at your back, at your front. Switching the port side front to starboard front. Or the better location for making turns would be to leave the starboard where it is. Move the port side/front rigger back parallel to the starboard one. Passenger used the dr at your back..........but your saying that is to far for the passenger to claim it? I have two dr as far back on my boat as possible to avoid cables contacting the prop. But, for the passenger in the front of the boat, there is a rod holder in front for his or her rod that is clipped into the dr at the back of the boat. His or her rod is close to them, even though the dr is at the back. There rod is close to them. I crank up the ball while they reel in the fish. I grab net while steering the entire time. Just a thought, and clarification.
