Took my sons and their friend Addy salmon fishing. We launched at 6am at Shilshole, dropped two pots and ran over to Jeff Head. Started fishing at 7am. The setups: deep rod @ 65 feet, red flasher and magnum green hoochie. 55 feet, 0 red flasher and small green hoochie. 45 feet, green flasher and various rigs. 35 pulls: Deep six and various rigs. Well, four rods is pretty busy keeping all functioning, I eventually changed to three. At 7:30 the deep rod released and it was a brute - had to be a king. The line ran off at an amazing pace and the fish felt big and strong. Unfortunately the hook pulled free. 7:30am, same rod, bamm! Another nice king. This one also made some strong runs but did come to the boat to be revived and released. Estimated size about 12 pounds. At 8:30, having no more action, decided to move. Since the day was young and the water smooth we made the long run up to the west side of the Bar. Put the gear down and immediately ran into dogfish. Caught three and changed tactics - faster troll, no herring strip. Left the dogs behead and ran into Possession salad. The northwest corner was a big pile of seaweed. Eventually got out of it and fished until 11:30 with nary a bite. Ran back to Shilshole and pulled up the pots - crabbers, bring your pots because the crabs are in big time at Shilshole. Two pots, 35+ crabs. I couldn't believe it! Lots of females but still ended up with three nice red rocks and 7 nice Dungeness crabs. The kids loved it.

So we headed to the Bar but looks like it would have been better to stay in the area. I talked with anglers in two boats. They both had silvers taken around Meadow Point and Pt. Monroe. I did see a good amount of herring at Jeff Head. I wouldn't say the fish are in big time but it does appear to be getting better. High tide this morning was 9am.
