So here is the scoop, I am on vacation visiting my Aunt/Uncle this last week July/first week August. I am from MN and love Salmon fishing out here in the summer. I had been watching the reports looking for when the Pinks might be in, hoping I wasn't gonna be to early. I got in right in time. Did the 5 day temp license, started on Wed. the 29th. Went out to west side of Whidbey Island about 5:30 a.m. and fished next to the boat ramp. Got my first one about 6:30ish, a small 18inch 2 1/2 lber? Got my next one about 7:15 a.m. , a 24 inch 5 - 5 1/2 lber. A NICE sized pink. I checked with the locals around to confirm they were pinks and they were. No Black on top of the inside of the mouth, just gums and toungue, and small oval spots on tail. Got a 20 incher Friday morning around 7:30 a.m. , but this morning was a blast. Went with my dad and wife around 6:45 a.m. Current changed direction around 7:30 a.m. My wife and I each got 2 between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m. 18 1/2 , 19 , 22 1/2 and 24 inches. I am not from around here, but it seems to me the 22's + are rather big Pinks, 4-6 lbers. I would say. I was using a baitcaster and my wife and father were using open face combo's all using Pink Buzz Bombs. Also saw 6 or 7 other pinks caught in same time period by 8-9 guys on shore and one boat drifting 100 yds. off shore. Saw quite a few fish caught in same spot Saturday evening too, we just didnt get any. 1 guy fishing 20 yds. upshore from us got 3 in 20 minutes! Hope you enjoy the report.

Were you casting out and horizonally jigging, or vertical jigging?

Hanapaa, B.P. Slimey, I was doing both but most people were jigging vertically. I had to jig horizontally with the baitcaster, the butt end was too long to do it comfortably vertically. Open face reel I would do vertically. By the way, if I didnt mention it before, we had much more luck in the morning when the winds were calmer. Also saw some silvers pulled out at Possesion Point Bait Co. on plug cut herring fished with bobbers. Well, my wife and I are outta here this afternoon, I will kepp checking back to answer any more questions.
