1 of 2. Took Friday off work to attempt getting out for the halibut opener with the intent of fishing both Friday and Saturday. The morning weather was crummy and too much for our 19' boat, so held off and launched about noon at Cornet Bay. Attempted a run out towards Eastern Bank, but the water was still too rough, so opted to drop a couple shrimp pots north of Deception Pass and see what developed. Spent some time jigging along the rocks for lingcod without result. The water conditions improved about an hour later, so we left the pots to soak and headed for Partridge Bank. Aside from some brief rain showers, the weather turned out great, so we spent a few hours fishing the breaks along Partridge drifting between 70'-240' of water. We caught one huge sculpin (~18") and a small dogfish, but couldn't seem to find any halibut. Pulled lines at 5pm to go pick the shrimp pots. The two pots we dropped only held 33 shrimp, so not great, but better than going home empty handed. The weather for Saturday was supposed to be better, so went home with high expectations of having a better day Saturday. Saw one good sized halibut getting checked at the launch.
