Dad came over from the west side to see me and do some fishing. Wasn't planned, but it happened to be opening weekend as well. It's been far too long since either of us had been fishing last. Dad started with a small pink fish shaped spoon with night crawler on the hook, and I started with rainbow spoon with rubber worm on the hook. I got a couple bites but nothing took it. I switched to chartreuse double hook blade wedding ring with rubber curl tail on the back, and rubber worm on front. While I wasn't paying attention, my line started running, and I thought I snagged something, so I quickly got the boat turned around and found I was chasing a fish. So I got my line sucked up, and once it was close to the surface, I saw a good size fish. Played it with my ultra light for a couple minutes then finally got the net under it and got it in the boat. Beautiful natural 20.5" rainbow, not a triploid. Due to rain, wind, and open top boat, we quit after the one fish and about 2 hours. Cleaned it out at home with help from a cat and found out this fish was a lady with a few eggs inside.

Nice Fish!! WDFW only plants triploids in Pend Oreille lakes. Triploids do on occasion produce gametes, but ya never know?

I believe Diamond Lake has a net pen, and they raise their own fish to supplement the planted stock..or they have in the past.

The fins are a likely sign of pen raised. Good loookin' fish regardless.
