Wow, this was just what I needed to start another beautiful sunny day. I hit a local lake about 0745. The lake was in perfect condition, at least in my opinion. The lilly pads are 50% grown in. They were perfect for still being able to slide a T-rigged Senko through, or a weedless chatter bait, etc. On my 5th cast I hooked up on a nice 3.6 lb LMB. I worked this area for at least another hour, lol. I then pulled in a 1.8 and a 1.5 lb bass, both those on Senkos as well. The last one was kind of funny. There was this super dark and fish looking area back within a large willow tree's hangings... I tossed it back there. Unfortunately my line went over a tree branch, and into the sweet spot. I immediatly had a hook up, and wound having to kick my float tube into that hole, and wrestle the branch out of the tree, in order to get the fish.

Then the rest of the lake produced plenty of small hits, rock bass. Tons of trout seen roaming below the float tube.
Finally 3 docks from the pullout... I pitched that same T-rigged Senko under a dock. Felt a soft hit. DID NOT SET THE HOOK!
Say what?? Just did a hard fast reel, and sorta mini hook set via that hard reel. Next thing it turns into a very solid fish. Drag is running...
I bring the fish to arms length from the float tube. He does a violent shake, and spits the hook. I watch the very nice 3+ lb largie, go slowly towards the bottom. Better than any fish I caught last year. )-:

Senkos were dark colors, with specks. Also fished a top water frog. Had a few small dink type hits on that. Nothing special.
All fished released of course.

Guess what I'm doing after dinner..?

Thanks Bob!

Hey, just wanted to point out to you how much I liked the portion in your book where you talked about doing things completely out of the ‘Norm’— like throwing bass gear on a fly rod.

Last weekend in Eastern WA. All my fish were caught, fishing ‘gear’ on a full sinking fly line, plugs, etc.
got the book by my nightstand. (-:

You were going to release that one any how...but as my buddy says "doesn't count unless its in the boat"...I don't mind when you get to see them.

JamesB, haha, yeah, I hear ya on fish to the hand/boat vs. ‘the big one that got away’— but yeah, man there is nothing like watching a sweet fish slip from your grasp, and dwindle down through the depths. It is almost a better way to even close out one’s day.

Probably for the last 40 years, my goal on each bassing trip is catch a new personal record for that lake. To count the fish must make it into the boat. Last year, while fishing Oak Patch Lake I had a nice "3 pounder" on for probably at least 2-3 minutes - had him right at the boat and he made one last dive and tangled in some weeds and threw the hook. I now have no personal lake record for that lake -- not even a dink. And, of course he would have been released.

If I show up tonight, would I witness a fella pitching a t-rigged plastic on a fly rod :>)?

That looks like a lot of fun. Certainly beats my boring weekend in the bowels of St Peter. I can't wait for Wednesday!

Nice Dude! I experienced similar patterns over the weekend. Fish under docks / trees. Seemed like they were hiding out of the sun. Completely the opposite of what I saw last weekend. Green pumpkin / smoke senko has been doing it as well as this cool craw plastic I picked up from one of my LTB's.
