We were on the lake from about 9:30 to 2. It was supposed to get into the high 60’s. But was cloudy most of the time, warm enough not to wear coats.
My son started getting bites fairly quick. We each had one rod on downrigger and one longlined. At first, for the longline, I used rod with leaded line. I switched it out later.
Then in about a half hour the electric motor was barley moving us. I have a device that will tell how much electricity is in the battery. My son used it on the 2-12v batteries that make the 24v for the electric motor. One was 80% the other 0%. In hindsight that was our problem with last week, too. I had already ordered the new lifepo4 batteries but they had not arrived yet. I would have just come home but my son the handyman, took one new starter batteries (I have 2) and replaced the dead trolling battery and we were trolling again.
He had the most bites only getting 2 fish in the boat. A 14.5-inch kokanee, without a adipose fin and a planter trout. I got 1 trout in. That was his best kokanee to date. He got it on the downrigger at 9 feet deep. I went down to 30 feet on the downrigger but didn’t see anything. It was all surface to maybe 15 feet down.
The water temp ranged from 54-56 while we were there. We tried to keep the speed from 1.3mpg to 1.5. We used corn and nightcrawler for bait. Green was the favorite color.
