This is a really nice lake with the most beautiful mountain -cutthroat I have ever seen in my 53 years. The average size fish caught was 14", with a couple 16" and one 19". About 10 fish total, (I didn't keep count).
I fly fished in my raft with my two niece, myself using a black stone fly. The girls used spinners with single barb less hooks and we all caught fish. We let all but three go, (we had them for dinner). I strongly recommend you let as many fish go by not lifting them out of the water, as I would think you would deffinently want to fish this lake again in the future. It is not stocked, so what fish are there, are all there are.
We camped at the lake and that evening as my 11 year old niece and I were fishing, we had a moose join us, feeding along the shore. The second day we camped, a huge family of 20+ people decided to have their family reunion camp-out at the lake. It really crowded things up in a hurry. To make things more interesting, on our third day, two helicopters started dipping huge buckets into the lake to fight a local forest fire. You can imagine what effect this had on the fishing. This was too much, so on day four we loaded up and continued our vacation.
When we returned home, I spent the next month and a half fighting forest fires through - out the state of Washington;(this is what I do for a living). My fishing days for the season were all but over. All in all, Lake Muskegon was worth the trip and hope to return another day. Buck
